When we asked Guillermo Jaime, General Director of MIA, about innovation, he said: “Leaving the corporate world in a position as was mine, wasn’t quite easy. It’s like trying to check the depth of the ocean with both feet. If you think you’re going to start a business and get your check on the 15th, you’re wrong”. MIA's business model is looking to break the paradigm of the rural community: Fear of the long term. Building a house in stages, from the top to the bottom, represented a change in the way that the progressive housing is seen and it is a way to generate innovation in a traditional sector by facilitating access to dignified houses for the rural community in a housing lag.
In this manner, MIA, beyond changing the traditional housing construction model, has gotten to know closely the main needs of the most abandoned communities of the country by connecting its clients at the Base of the Pyramid in rural zones with the wealthy investors. This contributes to the reduction of poverty, decreases inequality and improves the quality of life for the people.

A large portion of it is recyclable and convertible to compost. The innovation involves pickup, treatment and disposal services for wastes generated by homes and communities by charging a service fee in return. The waste items are segregated into 20 categories at source, further segregated by the firm and sent to the concerned parties. The firm also sells recycling bins, composting units, signage stickers for bins & compost units and composting aids like effective microbes, fly and smell control liquids. It also deals in purchase of recyclables and reuse of waste.
