PGBBQ offers the experience of a Texan restaurant with all that this entails, both to its customers and its employees. This is why the owners try to give their employees the benefits and values as if they were working in the United States.
The foregoing allows the American work culture to permeate among its workers, which is important because it improves the quality of the service and provides enriching bicultural experience. In addition, it allows its employees who were deported to have a place where they can continue living the American culture, and that place is their work space. One of the main values of PGBBQ is to believe in the people who collaborate with them, which is why both work values and remuneration are important.
One of the main objectives of PGBBQ is to hire people who had been deported by the government of the United States, since they had a work ethic, quality standards at work and in the service and / or food industry, that is, , "They have the required profile for the restaurant and they come to add", as mentioned by Roberto Luna, Mexican and one of the two founding partners.

There are many opportunities to start making changes around the world. What often happens is that we pay no attention to the right time to act and become leaders of change.
Carlos Daniel González Cruz, CEO of Ecodom, is a leader concerned about the effects on the planet caused by increasing indifference in matters of conscience to recycle and understanding people who have no chance to access dignified housing. He is a person who decided to start using solid plastic waste as raw material, which invariably contributes to the response of various Sustainable Development Goals:
Decent Work and Economic Growth. Ecodom takes into account conditions necessary for people to access quality jobs thereby stimulating the circular economy as a means to optimize their income and generating a decent work environment by reducing hours of manual labor, increasing productivity and reducing unemployment.
"¿Who does not like to earn the same by working a little less, making less effort and speeding up their processes? A master builder regularly charges per meter worked, for them it is more efficient to arrive, place the walls and accelerate their process to receive their pay faster. For a large construction company, when they manage to execute a project much faster, they can immediately take on another project they can deliver on time and assure continued employment for the workers", says Carlos.
Industry, innovation and infrastructure. Ecodom considered it was crucial to involve recycling within processes when developing their products, generating efficiency and increased quality of their services.
"50% of the content by weight of our product is solid recycled plastic, as part of the thermal insulation" emphasizes Carlos.
Sustainable Cities and Communities. Homes are built by construction companies with materials from Ecodom in urban and rural areas along with donations for ecological housing.
"When we were able to donate a house, I could see that it made a real change in the lives of people who really needed it and the words that they told me were among the nicest things I have experienced in my life and have marked me as well, giving me strength to continue " contributes Carlos.
Responsible production and consumption. Ecodom promotes responsible consumption from the creation of the product to delivery by using plastic solid waste that is not 100% recyclable, thus avoiding the use of natural resources such as sand from rivers or mines.
"We use plastics that have no market, which cannot be recycled because they no longer melt - those with retardants and electronic parts. We doubled the amount of plastic we were using", shares Carlos.
Climate Action. What Ecodom does is to prevent over exploitation of sand to prevent further soil erosion by using two processes that allow the reuse of greater amounts of plastic solid waste.
"We're using plastic sand, literally plastics that nobody recycles, instead of 32 kilograms of sand that is usually extracted from a mine or rivers ", concludes Carlos.
We had the pleasure to interview the director of housekeeping, Karen Joyce, of Fairmont the Palm, Dubai. She has shared with us her real-life experiences about the sustainability action plan that they are currently following at Fairmont the Palm. In our interview with Karen, we talked about the innovation of the business and their approach on how to make the world and the environment a better place. We discussed her high point experience at the Fairmont the Palm along with their newest wellness concept “Be.Your.Best.”; in which it engages their employees, guests, and also the society into a more socially responsible living environment.
They strive to reduce their environmental impact and hold accountable for every decision making or business action they choose. Regardless of their ongoing charitable programs, Fairmont started to give back to the society by developing concepts and actions plans embedded in the overall business model.
Therefore, Fairmont the Palm outlines the importance of sustainability by launching “Be.Your.Best.” concept. The innovation of this concept was under the guidance of Mark Sawkins, General Manager of Fairmont the Palm, the Be.Your.Best. imitative started out as the motto for the health club within the hotel, when you train you should "Be Your Best!" From there, it grew and has turned into a key driver in the hotel at being their best in every aspect. However, there is still a big focus on wellness, and they have expanded it to include colleagues, the community, and the environment; quoting Karen “we simply want to be our best.”
