While praising the accolades of the Multi-Nationals and their contribution to the world socially, economically and environmentally, we forget that these companies ‘Can’. The success of the multi-million- dollar companies are sourced by the adequate resources they possess; taking absolutely nothing away from them here. But often, small and medium sized enterprise’ efforts towards building a better, sustainable environment are overshadowed. The work they do to achieve sustainability, because they ‘want’ to do it, irrespective of the resources they have, goes unnoticed.
One such medium-sized enterprise is Infojini, Inc., USA. The company’s objectives towards achieving sustainability are rather different, modern and empathetic.

The company is a staunch believer of providing equal growth opportunities to all, irrespective of the financial status, cast, creed, men, women, people with special needs. Infojini, Inc. has adopted with a lesser known yet very effective initiative of taking full responsibility of sponsoring any employee’s further education or certification courses which are relevant to the company’s line of business. Infojini, Inc. facilitates its staff (irrespective of the cost) with proper training programs, R&D facilities etc. The employees are given sufficient time to pursue their courses or certifications. One example mentioned by the interviewee was PMP or APMP certifications which cost around 60000 INR and its completely taken care of by the employers. The mode of sponsorship can be in full-payment of fees, zero-interest loans etc., which is completely independent of the incentives, salaries or promotions the employee may be eligible for, parallelly
Mr. Kshitij Satdeve, the interviewee, explained the inspiration behind the unique initiative is the need to retain talented employees who cannot afford the expenses of some of the relevant courses. The idea of sponsoring or funding employee education has reaped benefits in terms of retaining employees, adding skills to their arsenal and eventually achieving employee satisfaction and better productivity.
The impact of the employee-centric concept applied by Infojini, Inc. was strong and in line with the forethought conceived during its implementation. The policy of funding employee education and skill development led to employees being more satisfied with the employers and the satisfaction translated into results. Infojini required its employees to meet deadlines at any cost and the work demands full commitment under a high-pressured environment. With employees feeling secure about the company’s intention for them, it results in efficiency and productivity irrespective of the workload. Infojini has been earning profits year on year basis, as such a growth rate is unfathomable without employee satisfaction.
As mentioned before, the company strives for employee retention. With employee retention it becomes easier for the owner and the decision-maker to plan for the financial with negligible uncertainty. The training cost is minimized which would be a recurring cost if the employees were to leave on a regular basis. Adding value and skills to the arsenal of the employees, with tempting incentives are some of the factors which are benefitting Infojini, Inc. in terms of better management of internal processes. Mr. Kshitj with his wise choice of words mentioned that Infojini, Inc strives to be better than yesterday. They are committed to adding value to their services and in-turn trying to build an environment with little less chaos and one which is more people oriented in every way. The interviewee mentioned a very effective ideology the company applies for fulfilling its unsaid responsibility towards the environment. Keeping the employees’ convenience in focus, Infojini, Inc. aims to ‘cure’ the environment by making it mandatory for the employees to travel by the company transport facilities while commuting to work. The pick-up and drop facilities are also arranged by the company. The company directly aims to promote the car-pooling culture. Being fully aware of the state of the environment caused due to carbon emissions and other pollutants, the company does its bit by bearing all the expenses to make sure employees are habituated with common mode of transport rather than using individual vehicles.
Besides the aforementioned ideas, the company also encourages the staff to take part in Zumba sessions and meditation classes organised periodically, keeping in mind their mental and physical well-being.
Apart from these solutions, Infojini, Inc. has come up with a unique idea. Since a lot of hard-copy tenders or proposals have to be submitted to various potential clients (Government and private), the company has made the use of recyclable paper mandatory across all offices in India and USA.
