Carboledger is a climate-tech startup co-founded and led by Ms. Lavanya that builds digital compliance and carbon accounting solutions for manufacturing and commodity supply chains. The platform helps companies track product-level carbon footprints (Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions), manage ESG and regulatory reporting, and securely exchange sustainability data across supply chains. By enabling transparent carbon accounting and supporting the transition to low-carbon trade (such as biofuels), Carboledger directly contributes to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by helping industries measure, manage, and reduce their emissions.
Carboledger founded around 2021–22, when ESG and regulatory pressures were rapidly increasing in India and globally, the company emerged at the intersection of sustainability, compliance, and technology. It operates primarily with manufacturing enterprises, chemical companies, and commodity traders across geographies, helping them manage evolving climate regulations and carbon reporting requirements.
What makes Carboledger innovative is its ability to translate dense, complex compliance guidelines into customized, technology-driven solutions tailored to each company’s operational context. Instead of offering a “one-size-fits-all” ESG software, the platform codifies regulatory frameworks and adapts them to specific industries, geographies, and product types. A key innovation lies in its product-level carbon footprint tracking system, essentially creating a “carbon ledger” that tracks emissions as products move across supply chains. This enables companies not only to report Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions accurately but also to exchange verified carbon data securely with suppliers and customers.
By making carbon data visible, traceable, and actionable, Carboledger directly advances UN SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). It empowers businesses to move beyond compliance toward measurable emission reductions, supports low-carbon trade transitions such as biofuels, and enables informed decision-making across global supply chains. Through technology-enabled transparency, Carboledger acts as an enabler of systemic climate accountability and sustainable industrial transformation.

The inspiration behind Carboledger came from Ms. Lavanya’s early work in the development and climate sector, where she collaborated with global institutions to embed climate services into food and commodity supply chains. During the interview, she reflected on how fragmented and inconsistent sustainability reporting systems were, especially in developing economies. She shared that when she began cross-checking satellite data with on-ground industrial reporting, she realized that “there was no one place where anybody was doing this very systematically.” That gap between regulation, reporting, and real implementation became the seed for innovation.
A turning point came when regulatory pressure in India increased and companies were mandated to report through formal government portals. She explained that earlier reporting was voluntary, but now “this will almost become a record on files for you… and later on, anything were to happen, you will be held almost on gunpoint against this data.” This shift revealed both urgency and opportunity. Businesses were struggling with complex compliance documents, interpretation challenges, and operational constraints. She observed that compliance guidelines are written on “the law of averages… but that’s not what the real picture on ground is.”
What truly inspired her was the realization that compliance could become an enabler of climate action rather than a burden. As she stated, “If the solution is helping others do the compliance better, they are more motivated to help in that transition.” Her vision was not just to build software, but to create a trusted system that makes carbon data usable, actionable, and meaningful for real-world climate decisions.

Carboledger’s innovation has directly strengthened the business by positioning it at the center of a rapidly expanding ESG and climate compliance market. Because the business chose to focus on product-level carbon accounting and regulatory compliance at a time when mandates such as India’s BRSR reporting were emerging, it was able to enter the market early and establish credibility with large manufacturing and chemical companies. By solving a high-risk, high-importance problem, accurate compliance for billion-dollar trade flows, the company built strong client trust and long-term contracts, leading to recurring SaaS-based revenue streams.
Because Carboledger customized compliance solutions instead of offering a one-size-fits-all software, it attracted enterprises across geographies and industries. This adaptability allowed the company to open new market segments, including oil and gas traders and biofuel supply chains in international markets. As regulatory pressure increased globally, demand for reliable carbon accounting tools grew, enabling the company to expand its product suite, from Scope 1, 2, 3 tracking to product carbon footprint exchange and secure data-sharing platforms. This product evolution strengthened customer retention, as clients began relying on Carboledger not just for reporting, but for strategic sustainability decisions.
Because the innovation required strong technological capabilities-data encryption, document processing, and AI-assisted coding - the company hired engineering talent and built internal capacity, increasing productivity and faster delivery cycles. As AI tools improved development speed, Carboledger enhanced operational efficiency, allowing it to serve more clients without proportionally increasing costs. Overall, by aligning innovation with regulatory demand and climate transition trends, the business created scalable revenue opportunities, strengthened competitive advantage, and positioned itself as a trusted enabler in the global sustainability ecosystem.
Carboledger’s innovation benefits society and the environment by making carbon emissions measurable, traceable, and actionable across supply chains. By working with manufacturing companies, chemical producers, and commodity traders in India and global markets, the platform ensures that climate data is not just reported but properly verified and shared. When businesses accurately track Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions at the product level, they gain clarity on where emissions are highest and where reductions are possible. This transparency reduces greenwashing and strengthens accountability in industries that significantly impact global emissions.
The innovation particularly supports environmental sustainability by enabling informed decision-making. For example, when companies can compare the carbon footprint of different raw materials or suppliers, they can shift toward lower-emission alternatives. In sectors such as biofuels and sustainable commodities, Carboledger’s compliance tools help ensure that climate-friendly products are genuinely sustainable and not falsely labeled. By simplifying regulatory compliance, the platform also encourages companies to participate more actively in climate transition mechanisms rather than viewing regulations as barriers.
From a societal perspective, improved carbon tracking contributes to cleaner production systems, reduced pollution, and stronger governance. When data is securely exchanged across borders, governments and institutions can better enforce environmental standards. Over time, this leads to more responsible consumption patterns and supports global climate goals. By embedding climate accountability into everyday business operations, Carboledger contributes to long-term environmental resilience and aligns industry growth with sustainable development.
