One innovation that really stood out is the EnviroSpring Mattress. EnviroSpring mattresses are made from 100% recyclable materials and produced by zero-waste manufacturing, include a 5-year warranty and the Zero Landfill Program.
Western Michigan University
This program encourages consumers to reach out when they plan on getting rid of the mattress and LCI will pick them up and break them down to turn them into brand new mattresses. "More than 20 million mattresses are dumped in landfills each year and it can take up to 120 years for just one mattress to compose" (Lippert Components). This product reduces a large amount of waste and capitalizes on reused material.
This innovation was inspired by the idea that large institutions could put forth an effort in reducing waste. LCI works with a multitude of colleges to create more sustainable and environmentally friendly campuses. Many colleges purchase these mattresses to increase their STARS (Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System) rating and enhance the community’s environmental stewardship initiatives. A vast majority of colleges purchase cheap and wasteful mattresses, with this option institutions can attain recyclable mattresses and comfortable ones as well.
The EnviroSpring Mattress is a recyclable and comfortable alternative within an industry known for taking up space within landfills everywhere. This allows institutions to advance their sustainability goals while reducing waste. These mattresses are being used for RVs, boats, trucks, hospitality and so many more industries looking for a way to make a change. Long-term this will save space in landfills and provide a green alternative within the mattress industry.
This innovation allows Lippert Components to partner with colleges and other institutions to make a positive impact meanwhile still making a profit. Partnering with large institutions creates an even bigger impact and awareness around the product. Going the recyclable route this company understands that they are producing not only a well-made product but one that is environmentally friendly as well.
This innovation reduces the amount of waste as well as encourages communities to recycle. Along with EnviroSpring mattresses Lippert Components also has solar panels on four of their factories and uses recyclable materials whenever it is possible to do so.
LCI team members have spent many hours volunteering at non-profit organizations and supporting fundraising events. Today Lippert Components gives back by introducing programs to teach social responsibility for employees.
