Empowerment Community with Waste Bank Academy

There were two innovations that the company had launched. The first is NyiMas Program in collaboration with PT Aneka Tambang Logam Mulia (A gold company in Indonesia) in a program to save waste with gold proceeds. The program was called “NyiMas (Nyimpan Emas or "Saving Gold"). In the program, residents who saved waste regularly for six months would receive their savings in the form of gold. The second program is the Waste Bank Academy Program. According to the CEO, the program currently serves 527 active customers with a service coverage area in East Jakarta. Plastic Smart Cities activities in DKI Jakarta were carried out by Bank Sampah Gunung Emas YPK during the contract period from November 2022 to February 2023. The program consists of socialization and education activities related to urban farming activities, strengthening cooperative institutions and optimizing the activities. Bank Sampah Gunung Emas (Waste to Gold Bank) also actively carries out the education and socialization process regarding waste management in schools in the East Jakarta area. There are 50 schools (from elementary to high school) who are supporting Plastic Smart Cities with a focus on waste management.

Logistics that cares for the planet / logistica que cuida el planeta

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental issues our planet is facing today. According to WWF, approximately 700.500 tons of packaging plastic are produced every year, of which only 30% is recycled into new packaging

Since 1950, 75% of all plastic produced has ended up as waste, most of it polluting the environment, even the oceans. About 90% of the marine species studied have been affected by plastic waste, mostly due to entanglement or ingestion.

According to Andrés Mora, CEO of Galaxy Pack, “In Colombia, 30,000 tons of stretch plastic are used, contributing to 81,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and costing companies 390 billion pesos.” Faced with this problem and the growing pressure from the market to adopt sustainable practices, Andrés saw a big opportunity to create a company that could offer a more responsible and efficient solution in Colombia. Driven by the environmental impact of traditional plastic and the new demands from customers and regulations, he decided to found Galaxy Pack to develop innovative load-handling solutions and help reduce the environmental footprint.

The commitment to accessible and clean mobility / La Apuesta por una Movilidad Accesible y Limpia

Globally, carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions have reached alarming levels, surpassing 36 billion tons annually, intensifying phenomena such as global warming and climate change (World Meteorological Organization, cited in La República, 2022). In Colombia, although the country is not among the world's top emitters, its emissions increased by 9.92% in 2023 compared to the previous year, reaching 100.863 megatons (Datosmacro, 2023).

As a result, Terpel is implementing strategies aimed at promoting sustainable development. Valeria Bernal, head of corporate responsibility, states, “Sustainability goes beyond an altruistic or idealistic vision of saving the world. It means assuming, from within organizations, responsibility for the impacts we directly generate. It also implies reflecting on how we approach and contribute to the environments where we are present.”

===============================================

Plastic pollution is one of the most significant environmental crises in the world. Every year, more than 430 million tons of plastic are produced globally, two-thirds of which are for single-use (UNEP, 2023). In Colombia, approximately 1.2 million tons are discarded annually (La Nota Económica, 2023). This equates to about 24 kg per person per year (Caicedo, 2024).

According to projections from the OECD, global plastic waste generation could triple by 2060, reaching over 1 billion tons, with less than 20% being recycled and much of it ending up in landfills or leaking into the environment. Without a doubt, plastic pollution is one of the major environmental challenges of the 21st century (Sostenibles, 2022).

In response to this, BioBolsa was founded as an alternative to the environmental problem caused by single-use plastics, the market demands for sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging, and the structural unemployment that significantly affects women who are heads of households. According to Patricia Chacón, Co-Founder, "BioBolsa was born with the idea of addressing an ecological issue to help the planet, to reduce the environmental impact generated by plastic bags. In addition to the labor issue, we see sustainability in these two areas: ecological and social."

==========================================
