The Farmer's Genie

Gramya Ventures started with a vision to provide market access to agricultural products produced by farmers. The business has three core principles, “people, planet, and profit,” which are the core pillars of its business. Gramya provides market intelligence to farmers and technical assistance to help grow and package the farmers’ produce. The planet is the central pillar of Gramya ventures, as the business started with the product, which is the native crop of Indian millet. Millet is the crop that helps achieve sustainability for the planet as it can be grown in less fertile soil and does not require harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides to grow. The mother earth millets also need less water to grow than 1kg of rice production, which requires around 3000-4000 liters of water, and millets require about 250-300 liters of water. The millets also have high nutritional value than their other alternative wheat and rice. The two founders have built sustainable business models that do not require third-party funding.

The business model helps in solving the various UN SDGs. Some of them are

a) Good health and well-being - providing food grains free from harmful fertilizers and good for health.

b) Responsible consumption and production - of the crop requires less water and minimal irrigation facilities, which helps in saving water for sustainable business practices

c) Zero Hunger - especially 2.3 double the agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale food producers

Give Old, Embrace New

Fast fashion has a shockingly negative impact on the environment and society. While the effects of the fashion business on gender inequality, pollution, water consumption, carbon emissions, and human rights are getting worse. Sujata Chatterjee, Engineer/Social Entrepreneur, realized that fabric wastage is a vast social and environmental problem and founded Twirl store, which collects unwanted clothing and fabrics from individuals and organizations across India to reutilize them.

Employing only rural women for the upcycling, Twirl ensured the empowerment of women, thereby supporting Sustainable development goals 5 (Gender equality), 8 (Good jobs and Economic growth), and 10 (Reduced inequalities). As Twirl only gathers unwanted fabric and does not manufacture any material on its own, it helps in reducing the water consumption required in manufacturing the fabric and contributes to Sustainable development goal 12 (Responsible consumption).

Universal Nature Energy

Is it possible to make a decisive impact on the world with a revolutionary and totally sustainable innovation? YES. UNE L.t.d. is a concrete and tangible demonstration of this.

Thanks to the strong principles and great ethics of the founder Scaltriti Giuliano, today this vision is a very successful reality. The company is able to guarantee energy independence for countries without power, businesses, cruise ships, villas, schools (and very soon vehicles) in a completely sustainable, safe, and environmentally friendly manner.

The founder is to be credited with the enormous ability to have managed to turn an idea born a few decades earlier in the Republic of South Africa into something concrete and revolutionary.

The product in question, being complex in its construction, can be summarised as a 'salt battery'.

With the chemical-physical process generated by a certain threshold of heat, it is now possible to create these batteries that are capable of self-generating such energy to power entire villages without electricity (an example of this is the microgrid created in Burundi, for which they were awarded the 'environmental enterprise' prize).

Considering the achievements of eleventh SDG (Sustainable cities and communities), UNE L.t.d. claims to reach them due to the transversality application of this technology which could be implemented in widen social and economic contexts, moving from big multinationals to little companies, from residential complexes to private houses, and finally from little towns to big cities.
