Companies for good (CFG) uses its innovation by helping existing businesses and companies to do well by doing good through activities that contribute to benefit society and the environment. It provides an opportunity for companies to interact with one another through a wide range of activities and enhance employee engagement. The activities are widely ranged from team-building activities, sustainability services designed for businesses while maintaining corporate social responsibility in addition to volunteering and many other activities that help businesses as well as the planet, the community, and the environment.
CFG focuses on simplifying the process of leaving a positive impact on society and the environment, in order to make it easier and accessible to different businesses. CFG achieves that through organizing the whole process and breaching the gap between the third sector and private sectors. This includes different companies, organizations, and charities, to cooperate and combine efforts in order to help businesses do good for a better community and environment.
CFG's activities include many benefits such as the social component in activities, which provide a learning opportunity and bring inspiration and motivation to become productive. It also aims to improve collaboration and employee engagement and enhance business reputation through CSR by making companies follow socially-responsible solutions and not just aim for profit. Activities range from outdoor activities that protect the planet, to team building activities that make a difference in society such as making wigs for children with cancer, making robots from recycled items, planting Ghaf trees, cleaning beaches, underwater cleaning and much more. Additionally, CFG provides activities that allow engaging with global issues like diversity, ethics, water, climate change, and inequality. This wide range of activities organized by CFG aligns with many of the UN SDGs mainly: Quality Education (4), Partnerships (17), Life on Land (15), Life Below Water (14), and Climate Action (13) through the services/activities they provide.
“Companies for Good" was a personal initiative of the founder Marc Cirera, who was inspired by his own belief in good business practices that leads to improving companies' performance. The journey to be in the CSR sector started at the early age of 20 years old. Marc studied Economy & Business Administration in Barcelona, then went for a Master’s degree in Business Ethics in Canada along with different working experiences such as working at communications consultancy in London as an Employee Engagement & Sustainability consultant, where he helped many big companies like Rolls-Royce to strengthen their ethics, values, and CSR in the company. After that, in 2015, he worked as a Senior Sustainability Executive at Chalhoub Group in Dubai.
Marc always aimed to make the world “a place where companies operate in a more sustainable and responsible way”. He knew that many companies wanted to do something good and have the ability to solve the world’s issues because people are good at heart, but they don’t know how to start so he wanted to help them in making that happen. As Marc said, “Sometimes when you have so many difficulties for doing good, you end up not doing it”. Thus, he created Companies for good to make it easier for companies to contribute to social change where he combined his business mindset with his passion for helping people, society and the environment. Additionally, climate change, pollution, a decrease in wildlife, inequality and injustice issues triggered Marc to take action to create a better world.
The short term effects of the innovation were creating engagements with different companies to help them benefit the community and create a change for good. Over time, the company’s innovation impacted the environment in many ways as it helped clean up oceans and improve the quality of air through the plantation of trees. Moreover, the company’s innovation helped refugees and labors to have a better life and provided them with the necessities that they aspired to have.
The organization’s innovation had a significant impact on the environment and society, most of which had long term effects. As part of the innovation, the company worked with more than 250 companies such as Amazon, DHL, Kellogg's, Standard Chartered, Ford, and many more to help them provide benefits to society and ease their connections with social enterprises and charities to do good for the community. Furthermore, CFG managed to help 10,000 children and have 5,000 volunteers. In addition, the innovation was helpful to the environment as it contributed to the plantation of more than 1,000 trees, and was able to remove around 10,000 kg of waste from the ocean to protect the ocean life.
Through this innovation, the organization was able to give back to society through different campaigns and initiatives. The organization supported around 12,000 laborers in labor camps by distributing food, specifically in Ramadhan, and also provide hygiene kits for laborers. In addition, the innovation helped support cancer patients and refugees through satisfying their needs, in order to create a smile on their faces.
The innovation that the company created, generated a path for it to expand internationally. The company started in Dubai, as they found that Dubai was the pioneering country for this innovation that would encourage the operations of their business. Then, the company realized how innovation was really helpful to the community, the environment, and people, so they gradually expanded to Barcelona, Spain.
The innovation helped the company expand as the services they offered were easily replicable, and they wanted to benefit other countries and make a change. They recognized that every country needs something different, and they wanted to help them do the correct actions to spread the good in societies and countries as a whole. Since the company was able to facilitate the relationship between companies offering different team activities such as tree planting and social enterprises that aim to benefit society and create good for the community, different services were offered to satisfy the various needs of people around the world, and help create a change for good.
The innovation benefitted the society through helping laborers and refugees, by providing them with their needed necessities and improving their quality of life to help them survive in harsh conditions. In addition, it helped people with special needs to experience different activities that enhanced their capabilities and knowledge and allowed them to contribute to their communities. The innovation created an opportunity for underprivileged children to enjoy their childhood as normal kids, by providing them with toys they couldn’t afford to have.
The innovation supported the environmental issues around the world through planting trees, removing wastes from oceans to address the issue of increasing waste in oceans, and cleaning desserts to provide the animals living there, like camels, with a clean and healthy habitat and source of food and water, without any waste.
Through their innovation, the company helped several villages in poor countries by building wells and providing them with clean water sources to support their living, and ease their daily water acquirement process, instead of walking long distances and carrying out heavy water bottles that could cause injuries or complications to them.
Companies for good is a social enterprise that helps businesses do well by doing good and provides benefit to society and the environment while enhancing employee engagement through a wide range of team-building activities.
