RUR offers end to end sustainable and decentralized waste management solutions. RUR strives to sensitize and educate citizens and designs, implements and executes turnkey waste management solutions in various premises. RUR offer a range of patented, innovative bio composters from household to large scale premises. The aim is to reduce the load on the landfill.
Every year approximately 3,65,000 kgs waste is being generated in Mumbai alone for which Bombay Muncipal Corporation has to make 1400 trips per day to collect the waste. Around 10 billion tax payers money is spent for waste transportation to landfills. RUR has come up with a unique, cost effective solution for waste management, an RGGC, a unique bio composter which replicates nature’s process of composing thereby making the process a cradle to cradle approach rather than cradle to grave.
Some of the innovations highlighted were:
1) RGGC, being one of its kind wet waste composter, is ideal for making organic manure in a decentralized and sustainable manner.
2) RGGC acts as a simple, sustainable, and low-cost unit which requires absolutely zero electricity for manure production.
3) It is designed in such a way that no water input is required for the moisture balance and thereby saves water footprint, rather it has proper drainage port with a tap for proper moisture balance and the liquid is used as soil conditioner.
4) Its smart airports ensures complete degradation of waste through an odor free process
5) It has a pest proof and leak proof system to ensure minimum maintenance and the stainless steel rustproof part ensure durability.
Densely populated Mumbai has been sitting on bad waste management. This is when four working mothers embarked on the path to clean up the mess as much as they can. Founders: Monisha Narke, Sejal Kshirsagar, Malvika Gadiyar and Smita Shirodkar, started off as a group to tackle recycling at household levels. Under the banner of RUR, these women started reaching out to people and generating awareness for a serious need to manage waste in Mumbai more effectively. Their first initiative involved collaborating with 22 stores of Sahakari Bhandar across the Mumbai where they started a program to incentivise use of cloth bags against the plastic ones. This initiative was a huge success and turned out to be their first tangible result-oriented initiative. Since then, RUR has been able to help people reduce carbon footprints by various initiatives and programs. The CEO believes “Even the smallest things can contribute towards sustainable living, all it takes is a little bit of an effort from each and everyone” and hopes that eco-friendly lifestyle is adopted by all and that there can be a better future for the children.
Rur has successfully composted 100+ tons of wet waste across Mumbai since their inception. Their business has blossomed along with their 150,000 organic terrace/kitchen gardens. Rur has further ventured into Tetra Pak program, through which they have collected and recycled over 20 Lakh empty Tetra Pak cartons. They have been running Go Green initiative and have associated with 300 schools in Mumbai for which they were recognized by Limca Book of Records’2013.
RUR sell these aerobic bio-composters to various households, schools, and industries from which they generate their revenue. Their clients involve MET Rishikul Vidyalaya, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Indian Navy, Dalal Engineering, Cadbury, Johnson & Johnson, The Orchid Hotel, Marathon Groups, Panasonic experience center Mumbai. RUR conducts various sensitization workshop and provides sustainable waste management solutions. They also sell various green products like citronella oil, Recycled paper, Gift articles and cloth bags.
RUR has 10 projects running simultaneously with many of them interacting with our community and conducting trainings on waste management and its importance for sustainability and livelihood. They have created a difference by following margins in society:
RUR’s main objective is to offer decentralized and sustainable waste management solutions to reduce the environmental harms of landfill and toxic waste. RUR has patented zero waste replicable model, which has been recognized by local governments as a role model project in waste management.
