Summary

One Roof Women is an innovative Melbourne start-up designed to empower and promote women in entrepreneurship. The aim of the start-up is to remove the barriers that women face in business and to help them succeed. Hayley Hewitt, the happiness concierge for One Roof Women, eagerly agreed to be interviewed about the start-up and discuss the impact it has on women all around the world.

Innovation

‘Something needs to be done about the male-dominated co-working space in organisations” is an immediate thought Sheree Rubinstein, a budding corporate lawyer and now co-founder of One Roof Women once had in mind.

The One Roof Women team inspire innovation by doing things differently. Hayley Hewitt, happiness concierge says that “an important thing in business is to learn because failure will happen”. Hence, it can be ascertained that an individual will fail will eventually set them apart from their competitors.

Their mission is to eventually open a One Roof Women branch in every major city in Australia and also create an investment firm where potential investors can come to the One Roof Women team to support female-led businesses.

Diminishing the Gender Gap in Entrepreneurship

Inspiration

Sheree Rubinstein, the co-founder of One Roof Women realised that there are hardly any women out there creating their own businesses and unable to succeed in operating them effectively.

Post an extensive law career, Sheree Rubinstein joined with Gianna Wurlz almost 3 years ago since they shared similar experiences in corporate organisations. Hereafter, they noticed that if a woman is career-oriented, it is more challenging to have a good career trajectory as compared to a man. These two driven young women explicitly realised the barriers that exist in business for women.

Overall impact

Their impact is the thought-provoking idea of having more female led businesses. From here on, Shree and Gianna thrived to run several women’s groups to be familiar with their needs and requirements. Soon after, they established co-working spaces in Melbourne, Sydney, and Los Angeles. As a result, One Roof Women have successfully grown exponentially for 83 businesses working in their co-working space.

They gather a lot of feedback from their clients and businesses because they aim to modify their services to fit each business’ needs and extensively provide ongoing support for these businesses to encourage women to create their own business and succeed.

Business benefit

One Roof Women is a pioneer which educates, inspires, and helps women make a positive impact on the community and create a better future for themselves.

They earn revenue by customers paying for membership to work in the office and pay for an office and for community events. Major corporates using the co-working space is also a form of revenue for One Roof Women.

Social and environmental benefit

One Roof Women are conscious of the usage of fossil fuels and take this into careful consideration. They are also fully equipped with a building which has extensive sunlight, thus saving power and energy. One Roof Women also save energy by not relying on the use of air conditioner which can be a major factor for increased pollution and harmful gases in the environment.

Most of the businesses the One Roof Women collaborate with are social enterprises who are just as equally conscious about the community and environment as them.
