The reason behind their innovation is purely for the three P’s (People, Planet, Profit). For the people, the firm not only meets the environmental requirements which reduces the impact on people’ health, but they also care for the people’s budgets. The firm ensures that their design accommodates client's program when newly constructed space is occupied. The plans for each client derives completely from the basis that the space is used efficiently, effectively, and tailored towards the interests and uses of the clients. For the planet, the firm’s fulfillment of the law and proof of LEED certification are directly related to the impact on the environment.
Their project fulfills the 9th Goal of UN Sustainable Development Goals. The LEED Certification requires the pursuing company to undergo a list of criteria that proves its cost-efficiency, environmentally friendliness, and protection of people (People, Planet, Profit). JFK&M also meets Goal 11 which is to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” by striving to design and making sure that the installation companies to strictly follow the checklist.
To meet the LEED certification and the Goals 9 and 11 of Sustainable Development Goals, the company designs their projects to reduce waste, the emission of greenhouse gas, and the use of water, therefore, protecting the environment and also the occupants and users of their appliances and buildings.
They are undergoing several projects at Baruch College and the SUNY Purchase College Center for Integrated Technology renovation. After completion, they will go through the LEED certification process like that of "MindBuilders", a LEED certified project they succeeded implementing. They renovated this 3-story building that contains a dance studio, music studio, classrooms, practice rooms, offices, break room and mechanical spaces. It also contains LEED certified compliant systems that the firm prides on as an engineering consulting firm.
The leaders of JFK&M are experienced professionals in the engineering field with over 100 years of experience combined together. Their sole purpose is to exceed customers’ expectations as well as making the least impact on the environment, which is shown through their LEED certification. Their another inspiration is collaboration among the team. They not only foster team success but also consider the collaboration with the environment. “People here strictly follow the engineering and environmental laws of NYC, which often are broken by companies because of money.”
All design documents need to abide by the national and local engineering codes, which are derived from various studies and experiments. NYC updates their Energy Conservation Code every 4 years to make sure that every design has a minimum impact on the environment.
LEED certifications are important to promote sustainability for future generations. If all projects can follow LEED requirements, not only can we protect environment, but also we can set the standards for the next generations to preserve environment. Creating a benchmark for future generations is a requirement for future innovations to take place. Not only do the LEED requirements create a higher standard, but they set up a world of success for years to come.
This innovation benefits the business by satisfying customers’ needs, which in turn retains the customers for a long time. They have clients who are new who read their reviews and old who keep using their engineering services. Since not many companies are LEED certified, this distinguishes the company from many engineering consulting businesses. This often leads clients to trust the company. Their innovation of tailoring to customers’ space directly impacts the reviews of their business, which is often posted online. Since many people prefer to have greener products at their working spaces to show their own clients that they also are environmentally friendly, JFK&M often is chosen over other companies who do not have the LEED certificate.

Our company’s standard is to design the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems so that the occupants feel comfortable working in their work environment.
