The Demeter company carries out fumigation activities for the elimination of the various pests that come to exist in the different restaurants, homes, and even warehouses of the city of Reynosa Tamaulipas, by using biodegradable materials that not only support the environment, but also take care of the health and the well-being of the people who live day-to-day with exposure to the fumes.

Based on the information gathered during the interview with the Director of Operations of the company, Luis Lozano, we realized that Demeter not only follows the basic guidelines stipulated by fumigating companies, but also has developed strategies differing from its competence to break the paradigms to which they are accustomed. For example, they use a rigorous process in order to evaluate the behavior of certain pests, such as rodents. This has created a strategy that allows them to know more accurately the patterns that these rodents follow, in order to implement the appropriate strategy to control them.

Inspiration

The leader of the company is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, but had to move to Tamaulipas, Mexico, due to work situations that happened in his place of origin. His company emerged as an idea at that time, because he had the knowledge about the fumigation business, only he had not developed it directly. The objective was to be able to help combat pests that occurred over time in the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, so that people lived in a more comfortable and healthy way. By purchasing the Exter franchise he realized that he could provide the fumigation service and at the same time be able to protect the planet. This idea pleased him, because he could do what he knew, supporting people with their pest problems, but using biodegradable products and in turn taking care of water, soil, and air, as well as people's lives.

Overall impact

Because the service is made with biodegradable products, it does not pollute or degrade as fast as normal products. This helps wherever the product is applied as it will have a much shorter life time and therefore would not do as much damage. In the short term we would simply see the changes in the pests, but in the long run we will see favorable change in the environment, too.

Business benefit

This innovation allowed the company to earn prestige and enough income to begin to grow and expand nationally, and then to reach an international market, while being a socially responsible company. As the company works with biodegradable materials, this causes costs to fall; it is not the same as using normal products. The company provides a quality service, but uses low cost products that are biodegradable.

Social and environmental benefit

This innovation has brought benefits to society and the environment because the new system will make it easier to control pests and consequently to obtain more hygienic facilities, such as restaurants, homes and warehouses.

But above all, using products that do not harm our planet is a great benefit.
