Buni Ropes Camp has been widely known by the public in the Greater Jakarta area as a green open space and city park with outdoor activity facilities for all ages in the society. It is located in South Tangerang (Banten Province), which is an hour drive from downtown Jakarta.
Buni Ropes Camp's innovation is to utilize its large green open space area to be used as a city park with a variety of facilities that bring huge benefits for business, social and environment and dedicated for the society.
"Buni Ropes Camp has a big agenda of creating a business model for a city park which is managed by a private company. This business model is focused on green and natural space conservation and creating a place for various positive activities and purposes. We aim to develop Buni Ropes Camp as a good example for a city park’s business model," said Dwi Irawan, Founder and CEO of Buni Ropes Camp.
Buni Ropes Camp started to establish a 1.5-hectare area with the conservation of trees and plants to grow well. It was followed by the construction of various outdoor facilities such as an international standard outbound arena for adults and children, a camping area, a children's playground, an artificial lake, and a swimming pool. The development of a meeting room, as well as a kindergarten school, had also completed the facilities in Buni Ropes Camp.
After completing the construction of Buni Ropes Camp, management decided to operate this park for both business and social purposes.
For business purposes, Buni Ropes Camp manages this area as a profitable business by utilizing facilities that can bring in good revenues. Buni Ropes Camp has been providing professional outbound programs and team building programs to serve schools, companies and organizations for their outdoor activity needs.
For social purposes, management decided to provide some areas in the Buni Ropes Camp as a park that can be accessed by the community for free.
Both of these methods have been working in parallel so that the benefits of Buni Ropes Camp can be absorbed more by the wider communities.
This innovation was expected to make Buni Ropes Camp as a prototype of a business model of other city parks managed by private parties, both in other locations in Greater Jakarta and in other cities in Indonesia.
Buni Ropes Camp was founded by a young social entrepreneur named Dwi F. Iriawan. He is an extraordinary person who has a high sensitivity to becoming a caring businessman.
"Buni Ropes Camp was established in October 2009, and initially this location was built as a place for the community and to develop the younger generation. We provide facilities for environmentally friendly activities. We also conduct activities to raise awareness of the community to become environmentally conscious and have the entrepreneurial spirit," said Dwi F. Irawan, while explaining the history of Buni Ropes Camp.
"The idea to make the Buni Ropes Camp as a prototype of a private owned City Park is essentially to create a big impact. I really believe that a business activity must have 3 aspects of impact, which are Profit, People and Planet. I am running this business not only for the profit, but also to provide good impact and to contribute for the society and environment. Therefore, the business can be more sustainable."
The outdoor programs and facilities provided by Buni Ropes Camp have successfully captured thousands of individuals from schools, organizations and companies. It has definitely brought good profit for the company. In addition, the free access to enter Buni Ropes Camp’s park also makes it easy for the public to enjoy open green space that may not be found in their home environment.
These significant business growth and social impact improvements, which have been experienced by Buni Ropes Camp for the past 8 years, have surely motivated Dwi F. Irawan to create more new innovations to help more people and communities within reach of Buni Ropes Camp.
He has established Entrepreneur Workshop for young people aged 15-20 years. The actual program is to create entrepreneurial workshop modules for young generations. These modules are made from the entrepreneurial experience of Dwi F. Irawan to be transferred to the young generation so that they will have a passion to create meaningful business, helping to solve social problems in the community and care about the environment. Modules are given free of charge to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of these young people. Furthermore, Dwi F. Irawan has also a plan to establish a partnership with one of the business schools in Jakarta in order to help him to complete these social entrepreneurship modules and to improve the quality of the contents.
Another innovation development is to build environmental maintenance facilities such as Waste Bank to improve the environment benefits for society.
The outdoor program and facilities at Buni Ropes Camp have been generating significant revenue for the company to enable them to obtain good profit, to employ dozens of employees and also to maintain existing facilities to remain sustainable.
In its development, Buni Ropes Camp also opened a new line of business that is engaged in Outdoor Wedding Organizer to organize weddings in open spaces by utilizing parts of this park that are suitable for a wedding. The target market for this outdoor wedding is for the couple who has a taste for a natural eco-friendly wedding and is also concerned with the budget.
