Sustainable Schools

“It started out as the need to stand out in what is an increasingly saturated market.” Hivve is a self-contained, low energy, modular school classroom with a difference. With Australian cities and towns continuing to grow and develop, the demand on outdated school infrastructure continues to put pressure on classroom sizes and the quality of learning that can be delivered to the next generation. New school infrastructure works can be costly and loud with an impact on both the schools learning environment and the physical environment. Hivve is an innovative solution meeting these demands with a sustainable and forward-thinking outlook on what school infrastructure could become.

Assembling a New Model

To achieve the mission of bringing people closer together, the Assemble Model was an idea proposed and developed by Kris Daff, Assemble’s Managing Director, along with a couple of other advisors and collaborators. From its initial proposal to its implementation in mid-2018 in Kensington, it took around 4 years of development as the model evolved from the initial idea to the form that was implemented. In conjunction with MAKE Ventures, a boutique property development and investment company, they researched in North America and Europe to help refine the model. The goal of the Assemble Model is to sell houses to residents using a variation of the build-to-rent model, which is an alternative to the conventional off-the-plan development model.

Sustainable Development Consciousness of Small Enterprises

The company size is small, but the operators have a high consciousness of sustainable development. As the company is new to the market, it needs advertising to raise visibility and establish a reputation. At the same time, considering that the target group is undergraduates, who have limited economic capacity, the company has put forward some business strategies to both help improve sustainable development and gain a good reputation to make more profits for the company.

Energizing a Cleaner Tomorrow

Delta Electronics provides a vast range of products that encompass power electronics, automation, and infrastructure. Their “core competencies in power electronics and automation has allowed them to provide integrated energy-saving solutions in specific areas such as industrial and building automation and renewable energy.” One example of the innovative solutions on offer is the “optimization of energy use and costs through renewable energy systems that employ highly efficient solar PV inverters” in order to provide clean and renewable energy.

Bioenergy Changes the World

After screening the technologies in the local area, Kangxin Bioenergy Technology introduced new technologies and equipment to produce a new fuel: biomass pellet fuel, which is a renewable and low-cost clean fuel. Compared with coal and fossil fuels, it not only has high combustion efficiency and energy savings, but also is clean and environmentally friendly, and the burned ash can be used as potash fertilizer directly. However, the innovation of biomass pellet fuel has not been widely promoted because of the limitations of biomass energy technology in China. But there is no denying that it has plenty of room for improvement and a broad future market.

Green Printing

The company is committed to reducing the environmental impact of printed products. They use environmentally friendly inks in the printing process. The inks are mainly made of natural substances and have less impact on the environment. Those natural substances are extracted from vegetables and plants, and they can degrade faster and more safely in the natural environment compared with traditional inks.

Intelligent Security, Safer Lives

The core idea of the innovation is to structure and algorithm the traditional monitoring system to develop intelligent security and facial recognition access control. When the smart security system is installed at the door of a community or apartment, as long as someone is walking under surveillance, security can view the walking route in the community. The first benefit is that it can find out in time for the public security department to input the face of a fugitive into the system, and once it is recognized by the system, it will automatically transmit the alarm information to police mobile phones. As a result, the system has led to the successful arrests of 17 suspects so far. Thus whether one is throwing something or catching a fugitive, it can operate effectively. Secondly, the system can be recorded and monitored in advance to prevent crime. When the intelligent security system is installed in a public area such as square or park, it will judge the concentration of people by the sense of heat to alert police officers that an emergency may occur here.

There Is No Planet B

BioPak aims to make use of everything in order to avoid waste. The purpose of this innovation is to create a regenerative economy. BioPak produces environmentally sustainable single-use packaging for food. BioPak is also famous for their design. They have tired of the many environmental problems caused by overuse of plastic. Because plastic is hard to eliminate in both ocean and land, its use is growing more and more out of our control. Therefore, BioPak aims to produce more environmentally friendly packaging that can be used for food instead of plastic. BioPak not only aims to introduce new products, but also wants to change people’s attitudes toward the plastic pollution problem. It is not for great financial profits, but for the profit of our whole human world, or in other words, the future of our planet.

A Sustainable Approach to Food Repackaging

Retub is producing a profound positive environmental impact by reducing the plastic usage of their customer base. Furthermore, Retub is involved in advancing the broader international conversation of sustainability and its overall importance for the future of humanity. Veronica is not complacent, however. She is adamant that Retub will continue to be at the forefront of responsible consumption and plastic reduction in the takeaway food industry. “We want to create a company that we can be really proud of as individuals.” Her desire to improve environmental and societal outcomes is purely genuine.

“We have a much bigger plan. This is just the start.”
