After more than 50 years of war in Colombia between the State forces and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a peace process began in 2016, closing a chapter in which at least 260,000 people lost their lives, 36,627 kidnapped, 10,794 tortured, 997,264 homicides occured, 169,764 disappearances and more than seven million displaced, leading to the reincorporation of more than 13,000 ex-FARC combatants, in order to benefit from the peace agreement. From this milestone, MANIFIESTA was born, a totally innovative company in its garment production processes incorporating groups of people into civil society.
With this project, MANIFIESTA bets, in association with the cooperative “Tejiendo Paz”, on two objectives:
1. Facilitate the reincorporation of former FARC combatants into the civil, political, economic and social system of Colombia, thus reducing inequalities.
2. Contribute to decent work opportunities to this population that, since they laid down their arms, have had difficulties in the process of finding work.
"MANIFIESTA is governed by a culture of peace based on tolerance, respect and acceptance of others," this is an example of the most emblematic slogans of the company embodied in its garments.

________________________________________________________________________________In the world of a million plastic bottles that are commercialized every minute and more than 90% of them are produced by means of fossil fuels, they take approximately 450 years to decompose. Annually 8 million tons end up in the oceans and according to data from the ONU by the year 2050, the oceans would contain more plastic than fish. If the total amount of plastic produced throughout history up until 2015, the ratio would be one ton of plastic for each person in the world.
In the case of Colombia, the ratio per person corresponds to 24 kilos of plastic waste per year. This equates to 56% of waste that is used in single use food packaging products. This has generated pollution in the water sources such as mangroves, seas, and rivers. The Atlantic coast beaches are 90% contaminated with microplastic. Also, the main rivers of Colombia are on the list of the most polluted in the world. (Amazonas and Magdalena rivers).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) 70% of the fresh water used worldwide is on the rural zone, this affects the surrounding communities and in the case of the Primavera Farm it was not the exception due to the avocado cultivation generating pollution and lack of this very important resource in the population.
Additionally, these productive activities are carried out informally throughout the country, which means that the conservation and deforestation of water sources are misused, damaging ecosystems and water sources.

This says Ignacio Rubio, co-Founder of NIBI: "we are inspired to see so many problems, but also the nice side of the coin: to see so many solutions there are currently. There are many people who wake up every day to solve these problems, to improve the living conditions of household mothers, to close those gaps with respect to gender equality (...)."

According to Euromag, it is estimated that each Colombian uses around 26 kilos of plastic per year (2018), while a Brazilian uses 31 kilos and each Argentine 38 kilos.
Worldwide, figures show that since the 50s of the last century, when the mass manufacture of plastic began in the world, more than 350 million tons have been produced. What in principle was an innovative idea, during the following decades has been transformed into an imminent threat to the planet, since recycling processes worldwide do not even reach 15% of reuse of this type of waste.
Other Greenpeace figures show that 500,000 million plastic bottles are produced annually. Plastics take hundreds of years to degrade and it is estimated that annually 12 tons of this waste end up accumulating in the oceans, according to the United Nations (UN).
An important pillar that defines Carlos Llanos is consciousness; based on the “social and environmental sense instilled by his parents”. In the research process of how to develop new products that guarantee sustainable consumption chains that contribute significantly to solving the uncontrollable consumption of materials such as single-use plastic, dramatic figures were evidenced that show us a discouraging panorama about uncontrollable deterioration of our environment.
Taking into account these discouraging figures, a year and a half ago the engineer Llanos "found a way to give a rudder to his vision as an entrepreneur."

The consumerism causes an accelerated contamination because of the irrationality, the lack of sensitivity or the ignorance about the consequences of the actions; in addition to the irresponsible lifestyle which contributes to the overuse of the natural resources. Colombia generates approximately 9.488.204 tons of solid waste per year, and only about the 18.7% it is recycled, among glass, cardboard, paper, and most of plastic. Additionally, it is necessary to resolve the problem of disinformation since it is estimated that 90% of the communities do not know where the plastic comes from. Latin Latas looks to inspire and sensitize through songs about the environment’s care, in order to connect people with a “sustainable revolution”.

What do you think needs changing? Ecosystems, both land, and sea? Sustainable communities and societies? Or perhaps, you’re like me and didn’t really want to open your mind that wide and settle for something a little closer to home. A zucchini garden in the backyard, or a high-efficiency lightbulb in your bathroom. Whatever that change is that you think of, did you think about it constantly before joining this project? Let’s jump back to that idea around the lightbulbs, the average apartment unit in Canada uses 20-30 kWh a day. Approximately 0.92 pounds of Carbon dioxide is emitted during the creation of just one kWh. Now, this appears as a terrifying number based on how many homes are located in Canada alone, but there are some companies combating this energy crisis and making a sustainable change, not only for our environment but for profit as well. CAPREIT is one of Canada’s largest real estate investment trusts managing over 65,000 residential rental properties in Canada, Netherlands, and Ireland, with a goal to decrease energy consumption in all 65,000 units. This is where our story begins.

Marché Mélanie opened with a strong ambition to reach their expected sales goals. The owner, Mélanie Dubé, learned quickly that ordering for the amount you would like to sell instead of matching current sales caused an immense waste problem. Having learned this lesson the hard way, they moved towards ways to operate their business in order to meet SDG goals. They have put an emphasis on responsible consumption and production by developing strategies to lessen their waste and found partnerships with fellow companies to manage their waste. In effect, they are working towards having affordable and clean energy, creating a sustainable community, and taking climate action.
