Rob Burke is the owner and operator of Wayne Auto Spa, an environmentally conscious car wash and repair company. Its mission is to preserve the environment through sustainable business practices and give back to the public. It is focused on clean and renewable energy, as well as water conservation. What started out as just a local business today is a unique example of a car wash that promotes sustainability and supports the community. Some of Burke's customers volunteer their time in the organic garden he created to benefit a local family shelter. He finds inspiration and fulfillment in the garden and from helping the community, as well as striving to improve his business and become more sustainable.
Wayne Auto Spa has 58 solar panels and a wind turbine that provide clean, renewable electricity. It burns its own waste oil to create heat, which it uses throughout the facility. It uses biodegradable soap.
It treats its waste water with an advanced filtration system to remove impurities before it goes to the municipal water treatment facility, thus saving the city money.
Wayne Auto Spa teamed up with Eva's Village to build a greenhouse on its property. It donates the food it produces to a local food pantry and to Hope Residence, a shelter for mothers and children. It also raises chickens and the money collected from selling the eggs goes to local shelters and food pantries. These aspects of the business relate to the sustainable cities and communities goal as well as to the responsible consumption and production goal.
It is notable that Burke had to push for eight years to finally get permission to build his windmill. He continues to search for ways to become more sustainable.

The main idea is to bring people together for one evening to share their experience and to learn from and meet others around a theme and from an optimistic viewpoint. By doing so a safe environment is offered for participants to open up and contribute to each other to flourish. The event proposes a variety of workshops, debates, group activities, fun, food, and lots of humanity.
Christine Cayré started her own business in Oct 2013. She called it “Affaires d’optimisme” which is really hard to translate in English to retain its full meaning; however “Optimism’s business” is close enough.
Early on she decided that she wanted to create an event that would integrate all the different lines of work that she had previously experienced: business, public relations, and journalism, with some main life drivers: connection with others, creativity, and optimism.
As Christine shared, “I had things to say and I needed a platform to do it. I have always been an optimist and I wanted people to experience what it feels like.”

It is difficult to narrow down just one innovation when examining New Belgium Brewing They are a company that was born of innovation--with innovation listed as one of their ten core values and beliefs. It seems, however, that a central innovation that paves the way for every subsequent groundbreaking change or initiative at NB is the empowerment and engagement of the employees. Not only does New Belgium talk the talk of employee engagement, it walks the walk--it is 100% employee owned. Employees of the company are all empowered to make decisions, innovate, and take risks everyday. When speaking with Penelope Gilliland, whose job title is Mothership Hostess, it is clear that New Belgium takes this empowerment seriously. Every coworker at NB is energized by the triple bottom line: benefiting the people, the planet and, in turn making profit. They take pride in their BCorp status and are excited about the growing community of B Corporations with whom they can collaborate.
