World First Garment Hanger Re-Use Program

The innovation focused on was the World-First Garment Hanger Re-use Program. This program was established in 1989 by the TIC group and has transformed the way garment hangers are used, produced and re-used. The program involves TIC producing and distributing garment hangers that are used by TIC's customers, then picked up by TIC once they have been used to be either re-used or recycled for other uses and/or businesses.

The business model of Easybuy is unique, which is based on online-to-offline (OTO) retail. Last year, Optical Valley Energy worked together with Huazhong University of Science and Technology, inventing a window product, named smart air-cleaning and energy-saving window. The company believes they have already met three goals of SDGs through the innovation of the product, which are good health and well-being, affordable and clean energy, and sustainable cities and communities. Smart air-cleaning and energy-saving windows can improve the living environment by purifying the air and using solar energy as its energy source, all of which is applied to three sustainable development goals.

In pursuit of becoming an extremely carbon positive company, Airush looked within, finding the areas within the company that have the largest carbon footprint. When speaking with C. Thomson (personal communication July 21, 2018) from Airush she mentioned “Our surfboards have one of the highest emissions out of all our products” adding that “ this is due to the high energy consumption required when producing the boards”. Naturally, a good area to start and keeping in line with their passion for innovation, technology, and the environment, Airush’s Research and Development team successfully reduced the toxicity levels of their surfboards by roughly 50% (C. Thomson, personal communication July 21, 2018). This was done through combinations of implementing EPS cores and Bio-Resins instead of the usual petroleum-based counterparts which are toxic to the environment (Shultz, 2009; Woody, 2012; Borne, 2017). As a result, a new board was created; one that has a much lower impact on the environment and maintains the same level of quality and performance customers would expect.
