Summary

Sajú’s purpose goes beyond creating new products. The entrepreneurs behind Sajú created a line of products based on recycled polypropylene. A result of this initiative is recycled bottle cap-based glasses, which is an innovative final product. Normally glasses are made of plastics that are not sustainable and that cannot decompose in the environment.

Innovation

The company came to be because of client feedback and market needs. Sajú is mainly an accessory company, and it specializes in making accessories for glasses. Clients often inquired about glasses made in-house so that they could buy everything they needed in one place. What came to fruition was an amazing pair of eco-friendly glasses. The brand itself is rather playful and uses colors and figures, like the monkey, to differentiate its products. Other products come about because of the needs of clients and workers. An idea is pitched when the need is presented, and the process to see if it is viable or not begins.

The original idea was a creation of the 3 shareholders and co-creators of the company, and in the interview, they mentioned that they reviewed the feedback of the clients which led them to brainstorm what would become their product. They developed the product taking into account the machinery that they had available at the time.

Being a startup, everybody that works at Sajú is involved in every process within the company to different capacities. Three partners started it all, which is a rather fun story since they were in college together. A trip they took together lead to the birth of their business idea. At this moment in time, they all still work together in managing capacities while remaining involved in all areas of the company's work.

Sajú was motivated to carry out this innovation to satisfy the needs of its customers and, at the same time, make life easier for consumers by helping the planet and contributing their grain of sand. On the other hand, they looked for a way to make glasses completely different from other producers and competitors. The founders expressed a call to action of creating sustainable, profitable, and highly useful innovations for their customers.

Overall impact

The mission is to make consumers' lives as easy as humanly possible, offering them all the different gadgets and accessories they could need. However, for the company, the only way to fulfill these needs is with a sustainable method. The company's promise to the environment is taken extremely seriously. Although Sajú targets a specific niche, every day this market grows and as sustainability becomes more and more popular, the company will start gaining more recognition.

Innovation has made it possible to open a new category in the brand which has produced an increase in sales. Additionally, this initiative positioned itself as a company oriented towards sustainability. It makes products like glasses that are regularly needed by people.

For the social part, it has been possible to raise environmental awareness among several clients and people who follow Sajú's work.

For the environmental part, Sajú's innovation has made it possible to reduce the amount of garbage and waste harmful to the environment required to make certain products by using recycled raw materials.

In the short term, Sajú has managed to diversify its products and launch a new line of glasses, thus increasing the added value of the brand. In the medium and long term, this is the beginning of a new sustainability-oriented company, with all future projects to keep sustainably in the forefront and the goal of becoming a 100% sustainable company.

This innovation created by Sajú has brought numerous benefits to different entities and can go much further. Beyond generating a profit for the company, Sajú is making a positive impact on society and the environment. The company's mission is to make life easier for its customers, and it's even better to do so with recycled raw material! As mentioned above, this product is created with 100% recycled materials (bottle caps), at no point using virgin material. Sajú generates less pollution than if it used new materials. This creation has positive implications for society; people can wear glasses to protect their vision with no carbon footprint. This concept generates a lot of attention for the company. This product is an opportunity for both society and the company to have positive benefits.
