Summary

With Polivitalio’s invention, Green Team could create plastic bags that are 100% biodegradable and water-soluble within seconds, leaving zero micro-plastics in the environment.

By eliminating micro-plastics, animals' life expectancies increase and the water pollution reduces too. In addition, it creates and promotes responsible consumption in our society.

Innovation

In 2018 Green Team carried out several laboratory investigations that allowed them to create an alternative to the already known and conventional supermarket bags. This new innovation is water-soluble and leaves a solution rich in hydrogen which promotes plant growth and the care of Marine life.

At the present year, all the products of Green Team are without contamination in the plastic coating, making them 100% biodegradable and compostable.

Polivitalio: A new hope to replace plastic

Inspiration

Having created a very successful and profitable material that wasn't environmentally friendly, Green Team noticed that it began to be overexploited by various industries. That encouraged and inspired the researchers to develop a new product that was friendly to the environment. The GreenTeam team has a lot of faith that sustainability is the way the planet needs to care for the earth and its ecosystem, which guided their work.

Gonzalo Cardenas (Senior Manager Ecommerce · ‎Green Team México) says: “I personally have always been in contact with activities related to nature, from an early age I realized about the endangered species and the challenges we face, I felt an inner voice that questioned me what I could do to contribute to environmental change or avoid the impact of pollution, it was there that I met Green Team and after seeing their pro-environmental actions and proposals, I did not hesitate to join them to achieve a significant change."

Overall impact

Today there are 14 million tons of microplastics just on the ocean floor, these also are found on rivers and land. Scientists estimate that by 2050 there is going to be more plastic than fishes in oceans. This is the reason Green Team México is trying to have a direct impact on reducing the excess of plastic. Since 2019, thanks to the company there are 50 million fewer plastic bags polluting the oceans. The company has been selling its products only for 2 years so this number a huge impact on the environment.

Business benefit

Thanks to the innovation of the Polivitalio used as a substitute for plastic, GreenTeam Mexico has developed three new products that have been brought out in the Mexican market. Their main product is the plastic bags used for garbage, supermarkets and commerce in general, fresh food, clothes, and feces for dogs.

The second product is the liquid laundry detergent pod for a washing machine that does not contain any micro-plastics, is not toxic, does not harm the water or leave it contaminated, and it has the least color transfer on clothes. In a few words, is the first detergent that does not pollute.

The third product is the coffee cup, which is the only one that does not have a petroleum-based plastic coating. This makes it possible to be certified in Europe as a biodegradable cup in the garden for 8 to 12 weeks. These products are only the beginning of the creation of new products that will replace plastic in Mexico that are 100% biodegradable.

Polivitalio is the first alternative for replacing plastic bags that don’t generate microplastics and dissolves in water at a controlled temperature or by photothermic processes, so the environmental impact is zero. This material is made up of water-soluble raw materials. It is not toxic. It is compostable and is certified under the European standard EN 13432, by DIN-CERTCO (Berlin, Germany). The plant is certified Kosher and according to the formulation, it may have biodegradability certifications in Fresh Water, Salt Water, Land, and Landfills.

Social and environmental benefit

The benefits offered by Polivitalio products are evident compared to other plastic, oxo-degradable or compostable products. Unlike conventional plastic bags and products, Polivitalio is biodegradable and water-soluble since a mineral base is created, leaving zero microplastics in the environment.

The impact recorded in 2019 by the GreenTeam team indicates that there are 50 million fewer bags polluting the seas. For this reason, the qualities Polivitalio allows the products developed with this material can establish themselves as pioneers of ecological products at a time when society begins to have more clarity about the environmental damage caused by traditional plastic bags.
