Mr. Ceniti's innovation for Calvert is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and produce a synthetic fuel that is more efficient for the environment. How this works is by taking the flare gas sites located at oil fields and converting the gas produced into a low-emissions fuel. In more depth, Calvert's technology connects the flare gas in order to stop the burning and then puts it through a gas cleaning system. After that step, they change the molecules of the raw gas into hydrogen and carbon monoxide (CO), then processed through a reactor that mixes the hydrogen and carbon monoxide. 

These steps transform the gas into a liquid, and the end product forms methanol. These innovations have a huge impact on today’s society. The company is always looking for ways to improve what they are doing to make tomorrow more cost-effective and to reduce emissions. As of right now, the target is 95% and in 5 years they hope to add another 3%, reducing emissions by 98%

Inspiration

Mr. Ceniti’s inspiration for founding Calvert Environmental arose from his passion for inventing and problem-solving. From a young age, Mr. Ceniti saw innovation as a tool to create meaningful change. Before his success with his company, Calvert, he had worked in the oil and gas industry. While working in the industry, he realized how much current and past large corporations were abusing natural resources and polluting the earth. One example that deeply affected him was in Nigeria, where areas have become uninhabitable due to severe pollution and ecological destruction caused by decades of abuse. Seeing things from this point of view caused a shift in his values. From "70% focusing on business and 30% being a good corporate citizen", to his main focus on "reducing greenhouse gas emissions.". Calvert Environment reflects his dedication to being proactive in the fight against climate change, and not just for business success, but for the future of the environment. 

Overall impact

Mr. Ceniti discovered that the burning of flare gas has a huge impact on the environment and affects areas within an 80 kilometre radius of the flare gas plants. This process releases harmful greenhouse gases and can significantly harm the health of those who live near the sites. According to research collected by Mr. Ceniti, babies and children born and raised near these sites are more likely to develop serious health issues, and have a higher chance of getting cancer. Flare gases contain dangerous substances like metals and cyanide, creating toxic gas that should not be consumed.
