The innovation we discovered when talking with Kevin is a special line of offshore engines called the XTO offshore series. It is a brand new engine model with an all-new design from top to bottom, and it’s geared towards offshore, saltwater, big boats. The idea was based on an offshore series of engines. It is called Yamaha’s 5.6L V8 XTO Offshore engine. This new engine design has plenty of advantages over anything before it. It offers the first-ever electric power steering system. That means no hydraulic lines or reservoirs to worry about. Meaning that it uses less power and is more responsive, allowing for not only a better experience but better efficiency. The new engine also includes direct fuel injection that sprays fuel at high pressure directly into the combustion chamber. Compared to spraying fuel into a common rack feeding the intake valves, direct fuel injections allows for a precisely measured and timed delivery that atomizes and burns fuel more completely for optimal efficiency and power and less waste. Yamaha’s new engine is more fuel-efficient for the consumer and the earth. This new innovative technology is second to none when it comes to performance and efficiency in the current motor industry.
Yamaha created this new engine based on consumers' wants. One of the main focuses is big boats. The bigger the boat, the more need for powerful engines. Consumers wanted to go further offshore faster. When talking with Kevin, he mentioned that being able to do so “Changes the whole concept of offshore fishing.” Yamaha takes into consideration all recommendations that users tell them. As Kevin said, “The big thing that sets Yamaha apart is building different motors for different applications, rather than one size fits all.” The new XTO engine’s technology allows it to be modified to the wants and needs of the consumer. “Being able to go further and deeper offshore allows you to catch different species of fish.” This new innovation literally opens up an entirely new world to fishing. Kevin explained how, in the past, tuna was a delicacy because of its rarity. However, the rarity was not because of the fish itself. The limitations on engines years ago didn’t allow boats to go far enough to even encounter tuna. Now the big catch is swordfish, and tuna are common on a typical fishing trip. All this to say that these new engines push not only the boating industry but also the limits of offshore fishing.
The XTO series engines are also better for the planet. Since the chamber is specifically built to burn less fuel. It does this by only pumping the exact amount of oil and fuel that is needed at the time, reducing waste and improving efficiency. This is made possible by a new state-of-the-art computer system built into the engine. This new engine design contributes to the UN sustainable goals. The design Yamaha has created is better for the consumer, the business, and the environment around it.
This innovation is a major benefit to the business. The operating system in the engine makes it extremely easy to repair and diagnose. The XTO series is a great engine to repair because most of the parts are similar for the series in size and shape. The only exception is some motors are stronger or have more horsepower than other engines in the series. The engine has a fantastic computer system that helps it to be more fuel-efficient. This computer system also makes it easy to diagnose problems within the motor by running a self-diagnostic test. The test allows the motor to diagnose itself and tell the mechanic what the problem is with the engine. This makes it cheaper for the company to do repairs by saving money and time. Also, the new design lets Yamaha make modifications to their engines much more easily than before. The only thing that is needed now to change a motor from a certain amount of horsepower to another is a change in the timing. Since every motor is made generally the same, they are able to be modified to the needs of the consumer much more easily than before with this new technology.
The benefits of these new motors are extraordinary. These new innovations were inspired by consumers' demands for creating the perfect saltwater boating experience. According to Kevin, “The design has increased the area of fishing capabilities.” He also went on to tell us that the fishing and oil industry is getting away from inboard engines and going to outboard engines because they are more efficient and less wasteful. Yamaha's new XTO series can push a 30-60 foot boat around 60-75 MPH. This is life-changing to a fisherman. In the past, a boat that size could only go around 15-30 MPH. The increased speed on bigger boats allows users to go nearly double the distance in a much shorter amount of time. Not only are the new engines more fuel and energy-efficient, but they also massively change the entire concept of offshore fishing.
