Summary

Martha María Moreno Archer is a Marketing student and founder of ESPII along with her father and sister. This brand was born from the necessity of her father who found out he has a disease that causes the narrowing or blockage of his arteries and used the product we will describe to heal and get better.

ESPII MX commercialized a food complement in two presentations, powder: that can be added to any drink or prepared food, and in pills.

The product is made from an alga that is grown and cultivated in an artisanal way called spirulina, which is a micro-alga with a green-blueish color that has many nutrional properties, this is because it is 75% protein. It also has a variety of vitamins and minerals, like vitamin A, E, D, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, iron, zinc and folic acid. The spirulina became popular when NASA used it as a food supplement on their astronauts’ diet during their space missions, and it was declared “food of the future” by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Innovation

ESPII MX is a sustainable company committed with the care of the environment, all the water used in their production process came from a water spring located in the same facility. They grow the spirulina in a greenhouse which protects the spirulina from any external agents that may infect it. The growth of spirulina helps to reduce the CO2 in the atmosphere, and its production generates almost zero waste.

De Una Necesidad a Una Oportunidad

Inspiration

Martha María Moreno Archer is a Marketing student and founder of ESPII along with her father and sister. This brand was born from the necessity of her father who found out he has a disease that causes the narrowing or blockage of his arteries and used the product we will describe to heal and get better. As Martha has said, the idea comes from the love for her father and the concern about his health and recovery. She was looking for this type of alga she learnt improves the condition of patients with her father’s kind of disease. As she and her family noticed that her father avoided a surgery the doctor said was inevitable, they proved the nutritional value of this alga.

Martha highlighted: “Our main purpose is to enhance people’s health through nutrition, create good habits and awareness about food, using the spirulina”.

Overall impact

The spirulina is a very complete food that acts as a food complement that helps to regulate the organism when it has deficit of some nutrients, vitamins, or proteins. It has an advantage against other complements that have the same effects, this because it is a natural product, unlike other products in the market that have many chemical substances in their formulas.

Business benefit

This creates new jobs in the community and at the same time, promotes good nutrition by complementing what is necessary for a healthy life.

Selling this product in stores, food supplements retailers, and nutrition sellers, helps and benefits the owners of the places of sale.

Social and environmental benefit

It offers the potential to improve food security while also benefitting the environment by requiring less land to produce the same amount of protein and energy as livestock.
