Summary

Call It A Wrap was created to provide healthier meal options for Staten Island residents. This business helps solve the UN SDG of good health and well-being. Call It A Wrap wanted to ensure that fast food restaurants were not the only options for people. They provide high-protein and nutrient-dense meals to customers.

Innovation

The innovation, Call It A Wrap, was created 20 years ago by the Malpeso family. It is located on Forest Avenue in Staten Island. Malpeso came up with the concept when he discovered there were not any places he could purchase a healthy and nutritious lunch.

This business is doing a lot for the UN SDGs and a better world. The restaurant's main goal is to promote good health and well-being. The menu was created to provide healthy proteins to customers. All the food offered is grilled and prepared using the freshest ingredients. Call It A Wrap offers its customers bison because it is a leaner protein than chicken and steak. They found their customers liked this option because it helped them on their weight loss journey. This restaurant offers different dairy products for customers in their smoothies due to some allergies or intolerances people face. You can add almond or soy milk instead of whole milk. They are also helping to achieve the SDG goal of good health and well-being by offering free delivery to customers who may not be able to get to the restaurant. This goal is also achieved because Malpeso's daughter is a nutritionist and offers advice to customers.

Inspiration

Call It A Wrap was started 20 years ago by the Malpeso family. The owner was originally in the construction business. When it came time for lunch, his co-workers would go out to fast-food restaurants such as Burger King and McDonald's. He was tired of the limited options. He noticed that Staten Island was lacking places that provided fresh and affordable meals for customers. He decided to take matters into his own hands and started his business, Call It A Wrap, to provide healthier options to the Staten Island community. They shortly became the number one spot Staten Islanders would go to for healthy meals and juices. Their goal was to offer fresh ingredients in every product they sell such as their wraps, salads, sandwiches, protein shakes, and smoothies.

Overall impact

Call It A Wrap faced short-term and long-term effects as a business. At first, customers were not that familiar with the healthy options that Call It A Wrap provided. Their marketing allowed them to reach customers. Their menu features a logo of a man with muscles holding a wrap that says "Eat It!" This encourages customers to give their healthy meals and juices a try.

A long-term effect is that the business gained new life-long customers. An increase in customers has allowed their revenue to grow, and they have been able to stay open for 20 years. Their reputation as a business has benefitted them long term. They have received numerous positive reviews with customers raving about how fresh, filling, tasty, and affordable the food is. Customers found that the food has always been consistent. This is an essential factor in the long-term success of Call It A Wrap.

Business benefit

Because Call It A Wrap focused on providing healthier meal options to Staten Island residents, several positive outcomes have transpired. Firstly, their marketing efforts and menu design featuring a muscular man holding a wrap with the slogan "Eat It!" helped familiarize customers with their healthy offerings. This initiative led to increased revenue as more customers began patronizing the business. Over the years, Call It A Wrap has cultivated a loyal customer base due to its consistent delivery of fresh, filling, tasty, and affordable food resulting in sustained success for over two decades.

Call It A Wrap's commitment to offering healthier alternatives has had a significant impact on the well-being of its customers. By providing high-protein and nutrient-rich meals, the business contributes to improving the health and vitality of the community, addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goal of good health and well-being. Additionally, the establishment of Call It A Wrap has opened up new investment opportunities in the healthy food sector, showcasing the viability of businesses focused on promoting healthier lifestyles. Overall, Call It A Wrap's dedication to providing healthier meal options has increased revenue and customer retention. It has also positively impacted the well-being of the community and created new avenues for investment in the health food industry.

Social and environmental benefit

By the Malpeso family creating Call It A Wrap, they were able to help benefit society by allowing people to eat healthier. Everything in their business is grilled, lean, and freshly cooked, which represents a healthier option than what was previously available. Everything also happens to be affordable which makes Call It A Wrap a go-to place for healthy choices without spending a fortune.

Call It A Wrap are also able to help the environment by incorporating sustainable elements in the restaurant's design such as implementing a less carbon foot restaurant compared to restaurants nearby. Their hours of operation are not as long as the nearby restaurants so Call It A Wrap can use a lower amount of energy.

One innovation they have put into action is their special ingredient, bison. This sets them apart from other restaurants because this is not a commonly used ingredient. Bison happens to be their number one meat. It is ninety percent leaner than chicken and steak. Call It A Wrap also happens to have several fish options as well. Furthermore, the owner's daughter is a nutritionist. Staten Island residents go to this local restaurant to ask the family for food recommendations, and they are glad to provide advice. For the past twenty years, the Malpeso family has been able to serve nutritious dining choices to Staten Island residents. As such, Call It A Wrap has been able to carry out the UN Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being of people of all ages.
