La organización “Co’ox Mayab” es el vínculo entre las comunidades y los turistas nacionales e internacionales, entre su labor también está visibilizar las organizaciones cooperativas de turismo comunitario que hacen un turismo más sano, responsable, solidario, justo y consciente, por otro lado también promueve el fortalecimiento de estas iniciativas a través de cursos, talleres y mejoramiento en la infraestructura para garantizar la calidad en los servicios.

The organization "Co'ox Mayab" is the link between local communities and national and international tourists. Among its work is to make visible the cooperative organizations of community tourism that make a more healthy, responsible, supportive, fair, and conscious tourism. Inspiration

A partir de diversos programas federales impulsados por la Comisión Nacional para el Desarrollo de los Pueblos Indígenas (CDI) en el estado de Yucatan, surgen numerosas organizaciones cooperativas que solicitan apoyos para construccion de cabañas, paradores, restaurantes para iniciar en la actividad turística, sin embargo, al no contar con los conocimientos, y organización, sus emprendimientos fracasa o presentan dificultades para continuar operando.

En el año 2015 partiendo de un diagnóstico en la región se encontró que la mitad de estos emprendimientos en turismo comunitario muestran un tiempo de vida menor a tres años.

From various federal programs promoted by the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Communities (CDI), numerous cooperative organizations emerged in the state of Yucatan that request support for the construction of cabins, inns, and restaurants to start tourist activity. However, without the necessary knowledge and organization, their ventures failed or experienced difficulties to continue operating.

In 2015, based on a diagnosis in the region, it was found that half of these community tourism ventures showed a life span of fewer than three years.

Overall impact

Su principal objetivo es promover los servicios turísticos sustentables y responsables de las comunidades Maya de Yucatán a través del turismo comunitario y promoviendo intercambios de experiencias, creando conexiones entre los visitantes y la naturaleza y la gente de estas comunidades.

Entre las líneas de acción de Co’ox Mayab también se encuentran el fortalecimiento a través de capacitaciones, talleres, intercambios de experiencias y mejoramiento en la infraestructura de las organizaciones. La difusión del turismo comunitario para visibilizar este tipo de emprendimientos. La gobernanza, que permita a las comunidades apropiarse de sus recursos y generar sentido de pertenencia hacia esta organización.

Co’ox Mayab también forma parte de la Alianza Peninsular para el Turismo Comunitario, alianza integradas por las redes de turismo comunitario de los estados de Yucatán, Campeche y Quintana Roo siendo un total de 24 organizaciones comunitarias que lo conforman.

Co’ox Mayab ha recibido el apoyo de diversas organizaciones como el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), Fomento Social Banamex A.C. y Fundación ADO. Ha fortalecido su organización. En 2019 recivió el Premio Cemex-Tec en la categoría de Emprendimiento comunitario y el Premio Emprendedor Yucatán, en la de categoría de Emprendimiento Social.

Co'ox Mayab is a social enterprise directed and led by tourism people in the Yucatan region using the resources of the Mayan communities efficiently and consciously, "preserving what nature has given us within the cooperatives that make up Co'ox Mayab, who provide the opportunity to present their community to tourists interested in truly knowing Yucatán, from its traditions, customs and ways of thinking."

Co'ox Mayab is also part of the Peninsular Alliance for Community Tourism, an alliance made up of the community tourism networks of the states of Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, with a total of 24 community organizations that comprise it.

Co'ox Mayab has received the support of various organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Fomento Social Banamex A.C., and ADO Foundation. Co’ox Mayab es una organización integrada por 106 socios de las comunidades de Yokdzonot, Kaua, Valladolid, Ek Balam, Río Lagartos, San Felipe, Cenotillo, Tekit y San Agustín.

Su modelo de turismo alternativo ha generado mayor derrame económico en estas comunidades. Ha concientizado a las personas sobre la importancia del medio ambiente y su preservación. En especial ha apoyado a las culturas indégenas.
