Summary

PT Biomethagreen Lingga Lestari creates a waste processor called Biomethagreen Biodigester (shortened to Biomethagreen). The wastes that come from domestic food waste and animal livestock waste are processed by mixing with a specific anaerobic bacteria in a container that results in biogas used for cooking fuel and fertilizers for growing crops at the beginning of the innovation. Their advanced research found that liquid fertilizer also contains prebiotics that is good for domestic animal livestock growth. It can make alternative feeds for livestock, especially for feeding fish in the form of Black Soldier Flies (BSF) larvae that are claimed as hygiene flies larvae with high protein.

Innovation

Since 2008, Dr. Muhamad Fatah Wiyatna, an Indonesian Environmentalist and a lecturer researched waste processors with specific anaerobic bacteria in a container and created an innovation called Biomethagreen biodigester (shortened to Biomethagreen). In 2010, PT Biomethagreen Lingga Lestari was established in Sumedang, West Java province, Indonesia, to sell the innovative product and its derivatives. They also perceive their company in social media as "Biomethagreen Rumah Edukasi," in English it means "Biomethagreen, An Education House" because the society and the visitors can learn a lot of things about the circular system of food-waste that we have to value our food until it ends well.

The waste produced from domestic food waste and animal livestock waste is processed by mixing with a specific anaerobic bacteria in a Biomethagreen container to produce valuable outputs. The Biomethagreen container could be a communal (big) one and a portable (small) one whose results are biogas. This alternative energy source is used for cooking fuel and fertilizers (Solid/manure and Liquid fertilizer) for growing crops at the beginning of the innovation. Their advanced research found that liquid fertilizer also contains prebiotics that is good for domestic animal livestock to grow. They also found that alternative feedstuff for livestock, especially for feeding fish in the form of Black Soldier Flies (BSF) larvae claimed as hygiene flies larvae and high protein could be produced inside the process by placing BSF to eat the food waste and let them lay eggs in it.

There are seven goals achieved through Biomethagreen's innovation :

  • No Poverty: Biomethagreen creates some jobs for the surrounding society and inspires many people to have a cheap business by processing food waste to become commercially valuable output and also inspire farmer or agriculture practitioners to develop circular system farming to gain low production so that people can afford the foods, at the same time can establish organic food cafe in the farm.
  • No Hunger: Biomethgreen create productive and low cost in farming makes people afford their food easily. Villagers or societies can adopt Biomethagreen as a circular system to create their sustainable food; at least they can feed their families with their crops.
  • Good Health, Biomethgreen teach us to value our life by eating good and healthy foods. Organic fertilizer from Biomethagreen grows organic crops.
  • Quality Education, Biomethagreen invites societies, especially school or even kindergarten students, to learn the amazing & quality learnings of waste processing to become valuable outputs. They teach us to value our food until it ends well and to value our life.
  • Renewable Energy, Biomethagreen, particularly communal (big) processors, can transform domestic animal livestock waste into biogas that can be our alternative renewable energy source. The application is for cooking, electricity, etc.
  • Responsible Consumption, Biomethagreen creates a circular system of our food-waste. We are responsible for what we consume by valuing the waste of it into valuable outputs to produce our food.
  • Climate Action, Biomethagreen reduces freely greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming produced from animal livestock waste. The greenhouse gas is trapped in the Biomethagreen container to be used by society as biogas fuel for cooking and electricity.

The founder of Biomethagreen, Dr. Muhamad Fatah Wiyatna, and the company, PT Biomethagreen Lingga Lestari, flourish by educating us on how to value our food until it ends well. We think that our food waste is to end at trash bin, it is wrong. They are still useful and have the right to end well and help UN Sustainable Development Goals. Biomethagreen teaches us how a circular system of food-waste through their innovative products; The innovation of waste processing has a valuable output (includes derivative products) in the form of Fertilizer for growing crops, alternative feedstuff and Prebiotics for domestic animal livestock, and also Biogas Fuel as the alternative renewable energy that significantly impact to our life and economic.

Not only able to learn, the visitors can buy the product, its derivative products and also enjoy the organic dishes cooked by their staff that the raw materials come from their farm. Overall, we realize to value our food until it ends well. Their long-term mission is to establish many sustainable, healthy, and independent areas, especially villages in Indonesia.

Many of them learn from him and the company how to process the waste into valuable goods and create a business. In 2010, He registered the company under Indonesia regulation, PT Biomethagreen Lingga Lestari, which means he created jobs for the surrounding society. He built an education house to educate society, students, even the government about the circular system of food-waste and good living. It helps us realize to value our food until it ends well. The Long term effects of the innovation are the society live in good, healthy, and happy condition and also independent in accessing their own food.

The business of Biomethagreen is about processing waste becoming fertilizer, biomass fuel, and even alternative feed and prebiotics for livestock. They also feature a circular system; integrated farming at their site: There are waste processing, agriculture farms (vegetables, fish & chicken) and a small restaurant that sells delicious dishes that the raw material (meat & vegetables) from their farm and cooking with Biogas from the waste.
