Summary

Whimsy and Row employs many strategies to stay environmentally friendly and conscious. One initiative they take is creating limited amounts of stock locally to reduce their carbon footprints. Although this means less sales, Whimsy and Row values the wages and fair treatment of workers, along with being eco friendly. They also use low impact fabrics that are much more ecofriendly than regular fabrics. All their waste is recycled. They are carbon neutral, and make sure to avoid as many uses of carbon emissions as possible, along with donating to Carbonfund.org. They avoid using plastic completely within the factory and when giving to their customers, and they also use only recycled water to reduce water usage. When delivering, Whimsy and Row uses recycled boxes and materials, and all excess delivery materials are all recycled. Once per month, Whimsy and Row participates in community events to keep their environment clean and to give back.

Innovation

Whimsy and Row are just as good to their workers and customers as they are to the environment. Whimsy and Row uses low impact dyes to keep their clothing as nontoxic as they can, and Whimsy and Row is also 100% vegan and has a full transparency policy when it comes to both environment and their community. They push to create the highest quality of clothing that they can make. They donate to many charities and organizations and push for equality for all.

Sustainable and Ethical

Inspiration

Whimsy and Row was created in 2014 by Rachel Temko. She attended fashion school in San Francisco and was very inspired by sustainability. For six years she worked within the fashion industry, learning all about the harmful and deceitful practices lurking within the fashion world. Determined to find her own way without these practices, Rachel started Whimsy and Row to make a brand where she could work in an eco-friendly manner and avoid all the problems she observed within the fashion industry.

Overall impact

Whimsy and Row’s products and product creation processes are all environment friendly, reduce toxins, and carbon neutral. Whimsy and Row also pushes for the safety of all animals by being 100% vegan, and towards clean water. All their processes of consumption and production are responsible as no waste is created. UN Global goals chosen for Whimsy and Row are Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Life on Land.

Business benefit

Whimsy and Row uses multiple strategies to help positively impact the environment and ethically treat their employees. Over the past eight years, Whimsy and Row has saved 6,290,502 days in drinking water and diverted 7,138 pounds of waste from landfills. Whimsy and Row produces clothing locally from low impact fibers like organic cotton, which biodegrade faster than synthetic clothing and require less water to produce. They also make a conscious effort to be zero waste by recycling their unused materials into accessories, like headbands, or donating them to Marimole, a textile recycling company, and shipping their products in 100% recycled materials. Additionally, Whimsy and Row makes a conscious effort not to mass produce, instead they offer a waitlist feature on their website so they know exactly how much of a product to make. Whimsy and Row also ensures their clothing factories are near their offices so they can visit the factories and check first hand that the workers are treated fairly and provided with fair wages.

In our modern world, it is more important to be sustainable now than ever before. There are many brands that claim to be environmentally friendly or do too few eco-friendly actions while still hurting the environment. Whimsy and Row is not one of these companies. Whimsy and Row has sustainability placed at the highest point of their needs as a company, and by focusing on this they create great products that keep the environment and customers paramount. Consumers and the environment greatly benefit from the good Whimsy and Row does.

Social and environmental benefit

It is clear that Whimsy and Row want to be transparent to its consumers and employees as much as possible. This creates a safe working environment and a loyal customer base. Whimsy and Row is committed to choosing the most ethical and sustainable options to successfully conduct their clothing store business.
