The Javed family hosts beach cleanups at their beachfront hotel. They welcome guests as well as community members to participate in these beach cleanup events.
St. John's University
The Javed family started to host beach cleanups two years ago. The family knew that marketing about waste disposal wasn't enough, and so they took action. The beach cleanups take place during the summer since it’s the busiest time of the year. The family, staff, members of the community, and even guests participate in beach cleanups. Not only does this promote a sense of community, but it positively affects the environment.
The family was inspired by realizing the amount of problems pollution has created in this world. Disposal of waste into the oceans has been negatively impacting not only the water but marine life. Various marine ecosystems are dying such as; coral reefs because of the amount of waste in the oceans. The Javed family is very conscious about the way they may or may not negatively impact the environment. Even at home they use solar panels and recycle as much as possible. They decided to implement their family morals of protecting the environment into their business. This inspired them to organize beach cleanup events so the community can participate in them. They hope that not only does this inspire the community to protect their beaches, but the businesses around them as well.
The beach cleanups hosted by the Javed family at the Southern Breeze Motel positively impacts the environment by keeping the beach clean and in return conserves the oceans, seas, and marine resources. Not only do the beach cleanups positively impact the business by bringing in and keeping existing business from guests, but positively impacts society by urging the community to make a conscious effort to keeping their beach clean, and conserving the oceans. As a short term goal, the family hopes other businesses in the community follow suit and want to protect, keep clean, and conserve their environment. Additionally, long term, the family hopes other larger businesses that are producing far more waste and damaging the environment see the importance of protecting the environment before it’s too late.
Hosting beach cleanups results in a major benefit not only for business purposes, but positively impacts the community and environment. A clean beach keeps guests happy and this results in more revenue. The chances of a clean beach attracting more customers is likely rather than a dirty beach. This brings in business for the hotel and keeps returning customers. The beach cleanups also provides an opportunity to get guests involved, which inspires them to keep the beachfront clean as well as bring that back to their homes.
Beach cleanups prevent waste from entering the oceans. This keeps the ocean water clean, which in return protects the surrounding marine life. Hosting beach cleanups also inspires surrounding businesses to participate in the Southern Breeze Motel beach cleanups as well as host their own beach cleanups. The beach cleanups also inspire the community to want to keep their beach clean.
