Summary

Sustainable cities and communities (waste classification / CO2 reduction / reduction of environmental pollution).

Climate action (Waste classification to combat climate change)

Innovation

Through collection, classification and sale of various materials for recycling, the business handles 5 different products: metals, steel scrap, plastic, cardboard, paper and glass. The main objective is to avoid mixing and slow incorporation of this type of waste into nature.

This company is the link between the consumer that generates waste such as cardboard, plastic, metal, etc. and companies that can recycle this waste in their manufacturing process (Mr. Cuellar, 2017)

The company tries to create greater awareness of what we can do for the planet.

Recycled in Puebla / Reciclados en Puebla

Inspiration

The proposal comes from the fact that part of his family located in Guadalajara, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, are involved in the recycling of various materials. It is a profitable business that allows him to receive a 30% gross profit margin.

As Mr. Cuellar says, “Do something positive for the planet and for society”

Overall impact

The residential areas of Puebla City generate a significant amount of materials that can be recycled. With the impact of the pandemic, online shopping packaging also increased considerably the quantity of waste materials that can be recycled.

What were the short-term effects? Greater citizen awareness of recycling. Which ones in the long term? A society that is more aware of caring for the environment.

As Mr. Cuellar says: “Now they are more aware of the rules for cleaning recycled materials”.

Business benefit

A 30% gross profit margin has been reached at the end of 2021

25% of cardboard recycling comes from residential areas of the city.

Social and environmental benefit

The participation of the clusters of the Lomas de Angelópolis residential area increased from 20% to 80% for the separation of their waste and now these products are collected already separated by the residents themselves. This collection is at no cost to the company. Now the participation of the Residents of Lomas de Angelópolis has included micro-enterprises, offices to participate in the classification and waste, and the company is already collecting the products in them.

This has also motivated these businessmen to hire the ZI company to dismantle their business structures for metal recycling.

On the other hand, the ZI company supports a sector of low-income citizens by paying to look for materials for recycling in the city. Every day society in all sectors is learning to separate waste with a positive impact on our planet.

And a specific part to generate this awareness for the planet was what they recently implemented: a campaign for the purchase of books and notebooks that are no longer used; children can receive a payment for the recycling of their books.

They are also selling the glass to a company that manufactures pieces of art (the old La Paz factory).

They also support other causes by donating plastic caps to the “Banco de Capitas” (caps bank) to help children with cancer.
