Summary

The Coca-Cola company is working on preserving and providing water to communities in difficult situations. Also, they are becoming more and more efficient in the quantity of water used in their product.

Innovation

The innovation is based on providing clean water. Indeed, Coca-Cola is working to protect water sources that provide water to the communities that participate in the fabrication system. They are looking to keep water sources clean for all the communities around them. As you may know, Coca-Cola is selling their product in places where they produce it. So, if they keep the places clean and dynamic, they also benefit from satisfied customers. Moreover, they are also working on recycling the water used in the fabrication process of their beverages. The company rebalances the water used during the production of our beverages at a rate of 52%, and they hope to achieve the best goal, which is to become 100% neutral in water. Coca-Cola is more and more efficient in reducing the quantity of water used in their beverages. The company recycles wastewater and processes it to strict standards and then return that wastewater to the source while respecting aquatic life. Sometimes they even find that the returned water is cleaner than when it was drawn. By this action they are not only helping people but also the agriculture in this area of Morocco, which is Al Haouz. The technical departments of the bottler and the company are responsible for everything concerning research of new processes internally, as well as the public relations department for the localization of regions, and external partners. Finally, '‘the preservation of water, source of life, is a moral obligation.''

Preserving and Recycling Water

Inspiration

The inspiration behind going green has emerged from a standard set by the Coca-Cola Company, which is respecting the environment, but also from an initiative called RAIN (Replenish Africa Initiative) for those who are really in need of water resources. The goal here is to return to nature 100% of the water we use, including the rehabilitation of the oases in Tata. Going green has helped the company improve the quality of their beverages by decreasing the quantity of water used by 52%. In fact, even the communities around the fabrication system are enjoying clean water recycled by the company, even though Coca-Cola is mostly known for producing only a cleaning agent not a beverage. It has been proven through many of their actions that they are doing a great job in preserving water and recycling it for people in difficult situations who cannot even enjoy having water without the efforts of the company. While recycling the water, sometimes they even find that the returned water is cleaner than when it was drawn, which is a sign that they are performing their tasks seriously and that they are not only helping people but also the environment and the agriculture in this area. These actions have strengthened the relation with the customer because they are seen as a company that is doing the job of the government by providing water to people located in rural areas

Overall impact

The company brought important innovations to communities around them. When the people of the region noticed that Coca-Cola was going to start operating close to them, they thought that it would be harmful for their health and their environment. After that, the company decided to prove them wrong by providing them clean water and helping them improve the farming culture so that they can have water and food. There are many proofs that show how this impact has occurred. For instance, the Tata project is reaching approximately 5,000 people who can benefit from improved access to water. The project Haouz allows more than 1,000 people to have access to water. Moreover, the Tata project, for example, preserves 803,000,000 liters, without forgetting the other benefits of planting palm trees. In addition to what is mentioned above, and according to Mr. Said Chouaib, ''The limitation of rural exodus and the creation of employment locally have short and medium term impacts. There are many people who live in difficult situation in Morocco but this innovation has drawn many smiles in the faces of these people who can now benefit from clean water and also food.''

Business benefit

As we have said before, Coca-Cola is working to protect water sources that provide water to the communities that participate in the fabrication system. They are looking to keep water sources clean for all the communities around them. As you may know, Coca-Cola is selling their product in places where they produce it. So, if they keep the places clean and dynamic, they also benefit from satisfied customers. The impact of the innovation on the business is especially based on the reduction of the water consumption, thus the improvement of the profitability. According to Mr. Said Chouaib, ''The sensitization of the team and its training for the research of continuous improvement (notably by using the notion of Lean Six Sigma, ...) have a positive professional and personal impact.'' Indeed, by adopting this eco-friendly mentality, they managed to reduce the consumption of water by 52%, thus, increasing their revenues a lot. They also gave a positive idea of the business to their customers and made them more loyal. Also, they increased the number of employees hired by investing in these rural areas.

Social and environmental benefit

As we have mentioned before, Coca-Cola is a company that takes into consideration the environment, even though the accusation is that it is producing a cleaning agent. It is an existing company since 1886, and people are still buying that cleaning agent all around the world. The company uses water to produce that beverage, but they are reducing the quantity used more and more, and they hope to achieve the best goal, which is to become 100% neutral in water. Not only that, they are also a multinational that is hiring thousands of people. Mostly, people in difficult situations which allows them to have a job with a salary and a decent life where they can afford what they need and what their family needs. The product may not be 100% nature friendly, but the company is fighting every day to make it eco-friendlier. The actions they have achieved should not be take for granted, because they have helped many people who did not even enjoy the right of drinking clean water. The company recycles wastewater and processes it to strict standards and then return that wastewater to the source while respecting aquatic life, which means that they are also respecting the oceans by not throwing in anything that could harm it. Finally, as Mr. Said said, ''It is priceless to see the face of people when they are provided with water.''
