“Malaquita” was created at the end of 2021 in Juárez City, Chihuahua. The idea was born by Angela Tarin, a Mexican teen who wants to follow current fashion trends with handmade accessories that are packaged from recycled materials to help the environment and fight climate change.

Many companies and businesses are dedicated to selling jewelry and various accessories, and use different packaging such as individual bags and boxes of different sizes depending on the content requested.

Malaquita usually uses bags for local shipments or those with minimal content made of jute, an ecological vegetable fiber that is 100% reusable, and recyclable, that has become a material appreciated by people.

But if the order is bigger, normal cardboard boxes have been replaced with recyclable ones which contribute to environmental sustainability, since corrugated cardboard is a biodegradable material with a maximum term of one year.

This material doesn't lose durability or resistance after the recycling process. Corrugated cardboard made from recycled paper is as strong and durable as paper made from wood pulp and ensures that the content of the shipment is not damaged and reaches its final destination in the best conditions.

Malaquita is part of the classification of companies that are committed to the SDGs proposed by the UN which implements numbers 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption) and 13 (Climate Action).

Inspiration

Although the store currently uses recyclable packaging, it continues to seek to offer other packaging alternatives to customers, maintaining the company's profitability and respect for the environment. "We seek, more than anything, to promote creativity, honesty, and transparency between the company and its clients as well as a commitment to the environment," Tarin said.

Overall impact

"Malaquita" has seen that the impact of this innovation benefits the company and its customers because they have a direct impact on the environment.

Short-term effects have centered around Malaquita being better known for its responsible entrepreneurship. In the long term, Tarin hopes that through small actions, such as changing packaging, the environment will benefit.

In addition, with this change, the company has been able to reduce costs.
