Summary

At Mirchi and Mime the staff is made up of people with hearing and speech disabilities that the restaurant has developed a type of sign language to communicate among themselves and the customers.

This unique tool empowers them and they’re called the superheroes who are warm, hospitable, and engaging. They create a memorable and meaningful dining experience for the customers. Each symbol has a meaning and is demonstrated in the menu card that the customers can view and use that specific symbol for a specific dish when ordering.

They address the recruits as “Specially Abled” which increases the morale of the recruits as well. This is a one of a kind story where they have set a precedent as to how to employ the people who are categorized as unemployable by the general world. They’re breaking barriers and giving a chance to the people who have deserved this for years.

Innovation

Innovation is implementing creative ideas and creating new opportunities by combining two different sections. At Mirchi and Mime they created a new place with delicious food and a hard-working and brilliant team of differently talented people. Mirchi and Mime offer more than just food, they created an unforgettable experience that is life-changing for both the consumer and the employees working there. Customers can order the food without knowing the sign language because the menu is designed in such a way that they can simply show it on the menu and have it ordered. They not only serve great food but even greater stories.

Inspiration

The business model at Mirchi and Mime was inspired by an American company that had a similar model of hiring special people for the work at their company. This model was observed by the founders of Mirchi and Mime who thought that why can't the same model be implemented in India too.

So the founders came up with Mirchi & Mime, which is a trendy dining restaurant serving modern-Indian cuisine, first of its kind in India, served exclusively by speech & hearing-impaired service staff. The restaurant offers seasonal and classical dishes from select locations across India with contemporary expressions presented by a highly experienced kitchen team. Good food served quietly.

Overall impact

This makes the customers empowered as they feel that they have also played a part in this transformational journey. One of the customers recalled that “I have seen the best customer service here and that makes me come back here more and the novel cause that they’re promoting, my values align with it as well”.

This is how Mirchi and Mime have created a loyal customer base and with their best in the industry HR Practices they train the recruits that are categorized as unemployable by other corporations.

Social and environmental benefit

Mirchi and Mime got inspired by all the social entrepreneurs of the country. They basically followed the Stakeholder's theory rather than the Shareholder's theory. This has helped them to create a long-lasting impact on society through the work that they carry out.
