Summary

In this innovation story, we'll be exploring a company that has developed a platform to address a specific challenge related to Good Health and Wellbeing, which aims to build an inclusive community that encourages healthy hair, skin, and lifestyles.

Feloh is a social platform that connects people with conscious and sustainable brands. The app is designed to help users discover and share sustainable products and services, as well as connect with like-minded individuals who are committed to living a sustainable lifestyle. In this article, we will discuss how Feloh is making a positive impact on society and the environment, and how the company is committed to sustainability in all aspects of its operations.

Innovation

The platform prioritizes social responsibility, diversity, and inclusivity while also making sustainable products accessible and affordable to everyone. I spoke with Heard about their practices and initiatives and their overall impact on their local community.

Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) is at the forefront of Feloh's mission. The team heavily researches brands before loading them onto the platform to ensure they are ethically made, sustainable, and have efficient packaging. They also offer discounts to brands that meet sustainability initiatives, and the ultimate goal is to have electric vehicle delivery options available. The app is free for all to participate, and they have a rewards program to incentivize sustainable consumption.

Diversity and inclusion in the workplace (SDG 5) is a top priority for Feloh, as it is reflected in their marketing, content, and workers. The founder's lived experiences influence the company's DNA to be intentional about reflecting a community that represents all people, including the disabled community. They also plan to implement an internship program to help young individuals gain experience and exposure to different aspects of the business.

Inspiration

Feloh, a mobile application, was co-founded by a Black-woman, Camille Heard, CEO, who wanted to create a platform that was inclusive and reflected the values of the community. Feloh is an interactive, social media app where you can post photos, videos, like, comment, and share. There is also a feature where you can earn points to redeem products!

The company is committed to promoting sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12), reducing barriers to sustainable products (SDG 1), and supporting gender equality (SDG 5) through its product and services. Feloh is also dedicated to working with other organizations and promoting partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17).

Overall impact

Feloh ensures that its products and services are accessible and affordable to everyone, regardless of their income or location (SDG 1). The platform offers affordable options that are still high-quality, and their curation policies ensure that they have a range of products for all budgets. The app's success is measured through a KPI dashboard, tracking the number of downloads, posts, comments, likes, engagement, and sales.

Business benefit

Feloh also addresses social issues by providing a conscious and inclusive space for people to share their authentic experiences. For example, they held a "Crown Act" event that celebrated natural hair acceptance, which has not yet passed in Cleveland. Feloh also has forums for individuals to connect and discuss other topics related to social issues.

Social and environmental benefit

To promote sustainable development goals, Feloh collaborates with other organizations, including those in the non-profit or public sectors, through social media. They also cross-share business resources and offer tips to improve operations and funding opportunities. Although Feloh is a relatively small company, the action of informing and educating other organizations promotes sustainability all in itself.
