Changing Old Clothes to Cotton

Inspiration

Cotton was used for clothing in present-day Peru and Mexico perhaps as long as 5,000 years ago. Also, cotton was grown, spun, and woven in ancient India, China, Egypt, and Pakistan, around 3000 B.C. Specially cotton made by cotton tree which scientific name is Gossypium arboretum. But we can make it from different things. Balaram Upreti search about it and finally find out. He was inspired from Jagannath Shrestha, who worked in this field for a long time. Then he started to open this factory.

Overall impact

Basically, this business idea creates for green environment and recycles of waste products (clothes). People can reuse of waste clothes as a new product. Workers (who collect waste clothes) are not properly collect old and waste piece of clothes. It is because of less number of this type of factory. In the summer time factory does less supply than winter season. In the time of winter people need cotton made product quilt. It reduces green house gases and it saves landfill space. Recycling old clothes helps in the development of new markets. Raw materials made from recycled products cost far less, making them more attractive to smaller and emerging manufacturers.

Business benefit

This business is profitable as well as control environmental pollution (green environment).15% of total profits are made through sales of recyclable product said by Balaram Upreti (owner). He said, they bought old or waste piece of clothes in Rs15 per kg and when they sales as cotton then they sold in Rs20.The workers wage is based on per kg of cotton.

The wage rate is Rs2 per kg. This type of business can earn huge amount of profit for a long period of time because cotton becomes the part of our life from which we can make bed sheets, pillow cases and others things which are very important in our life. Natural cotton is very expensive which can’t be afforded by middle class and lower class.

Social and environmental benefit

This business focused on pollution control by recycling of waste piece of product. People had thrown unnecessary old and waste piece of clothes in the river side or road side. But now it reduces because of this factory. It utilizes those waste clothes and made cotton product like quilt etc. Clothes that aren’t suitable for reuse should still be recycled! Even if they are torn or stained, old clothes can be turned into wiping rags, insulation, paper, yarn, and more. It costs less to make these items from recycled textiles than virgin materials, saving both money and resources.

Not all textile and clothing waste is produced by households. Commercial processes such as fabric and garment manufacturing are also responsible for a large portion of the total waste produced. One of the benefits of recycling clothes is the production of evergreen yarns and fabrics, helping to spawn a whole new breed of fashionable designers who specialize in working with recycled fabrics. Recycling clothing greatly reduces the amount of household waste destined for landfill. Sending less waste reduces the release of methane, greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.

Recycling old clothes prevents unneeded wastage and can be a more sustainable alternative to disposal. Recycled cotton may come from older, previously used garments or by textile leftovers which are then spun into new yarns and fabrics.
