According to ENCOVI data from the National Survey of Living Conditions, the economic crisis in Venezuela has motivated the migration of approximately 7 million Venezuelans, of whom almost 3 million have taken refuge in Colombia. And although many of these Venezuelans manage to find employment in professions related to their professional career, others do not have the educational levels that a cosmopolitan city like Bogotá demands. According to estimates by Migración Colombia, close to 500,000 migrants from the neighboring country have settled in Bogotá. In a survey on the needs of food insecurity, it is estimated that 25% consumed quality water. 36% lived in overcrowded conditions, and 31% were at risk of being evicted.
On the other hand, in the capital of Colombia, around 157,355 tons of usable solid waste are collected, equivalent to 13,112 tons of usable waste piled monthly (Empresa de Acueducto, Alcantarillado y Aseo de Bogotá-EAAB, 2020).
As a result of these two realities, Reciclajes Moreno "offers a decent job option to any person, regardless of their nationality, legal situation, being a man, woman or young person," says its founder Edison Moreno. Anyone can collect recyclable material, and no one who comes to the collection center is discriminated against.

Según los datos ENCOVI Encuesta Nacional de Condiciones de Vida, la crisis económica de Venezuela ha motivado la migración de aproximadamente 7 millones de venezolanos, de los cuales, casi 3 millones se han refugiado en Colombia. Y aunque muchos de estos venezolanos logran emplearse en profesiones afines a su carrera profesional, otros no tienen los niveles educativos que una ciudad cosmopolita como Bogotá exige. Según estimaciones de Migración Colombia, en Bogotá se han asentado cerca de 500.000 migrantes provenientes del país vecino, y una encuesta sobre las necesidades de inseguridad alimentaria, se estima que un 25% consumía agua de calidad. Un 36% vivía en condiciones de hacinamiento y el 31% corría riesgo de que lo desalojaran de su vivienda.
Por otro lado, en la capital de Colombia se recolectan alrededor de 157,355 toneladas de residuos sólidos aprovechables, equivalente a 13,112 toneladas de residuos aprovechables recogidos mensualmente (Empresa de Acueducto, Alcantarillado y Aseo de Bogotá-EAAB, 2020).
A raíz de estas dos realidades, la empresa Reciclajes Moreno “ofrece una opción de trabajo decente a cualquier persona, independiente de su nacionalidad, situación legal, siendo hombre, mujer o joven” indica su fundador Edison Moreno. Cualquier persona puede recolectar material reciclable y no se discrimina a nadie que llegue al centro de acopio.
The innovation of Reciclajes Moreno is based on the union of two problems, the first with the migration of Venezuelans who have nothing to eat and the second with the amount of recycling material generated in Bogotá. Reciclajes Moreno points to the SDGs "Decent work and economic growth" by creating decent jobs for 42 employees who recycle in Bogotá. The collection of recycled material does not discriminate against those who want to work as a recycler. This business model belongs to the informal labor market; everyone can work and trade without any difference.
The SDGs "Responsible Production and Consumption" aims to reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, reuse, and recycling activities. The collection activities carried out by Reciclajes Moreno contribute to that second chance that some materials have, re-entering the economy using recycled products, which become raw materials for some industries.

De acuerdo con su fundador, esta empresa nació para “darle una segunda oportunidad a todos, al material reciclaje y a los recicladores que puedan tener un trabajo decente y digno, para él y todo su núcleo familiar”. Apuntando al cumplimiento de los siguientes Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS):
Reciclaje Moreno le apunta al ODS “Hambre Cero” porque al trabajar para una empresa legalmente constituida, el reciclador puede inscribirse en el Registro Único de Recicladores- RURO, y así tener acceso a los subsidios que brinda el estado para disminuir los niveles de hambre en el sector de los recicladores.
Reciclaje Moreno le apunta al ODS “Trabajo decente y crecimiento económico” esto a través de la creación de puestos de trabajo decente para 42 empleados que reciclan en Bogotá. La recolección de material reciclado no discrimina a quien desea ejercer como reciclador. Este modelo de negocio pertenece al mercado laboral informal, todas las personas pueden trabajar y comerciar sin diferencia alguna.
El ODS “Producción y Consumo Responsables” apunta a la reducción de la generación de desechos, mediante actividades de prevención, reducción, reutilización y reciclado. Las actividades de recolección realizadas por Reciclajes Moreno aportan a esa segunda oportunidad que tienen algunos materiales; re-ingresando a la economía la utilización de productos reciclados, que se convierten en materia prima para algunas industrias.
Es así como el proceso de reutilización de los residuos en Bogotá le abre la oportunidad a hombres y mujeres cabezas de familia, para tener la forma de “conseguir el ingreso diario, con un trabajo digno”.

En el 2016, cuando fue fundada la empresa se inició con 7 recicladores y cada año en promedio se crece en un 18%. Esto se debe a la equidad en el pago del material reciclado, entre los recicladores se comparte el precio y siempre tienden a ir al mejor comprador de su material.
Edison Moreno indica que “Este es un negocio en el que todos ganamos, gana el venezolano porque logra tener el ingreso diario para comer, gana la ciudad porque se recicla material que de otra forma iría directamente al relleno sanitario y gano yo como empresario porque al tener mi empresa puedo ser el puente entre dos necesidades y tener ingresos y crecimientos sostenibles”.

Reciclajes Moreno, founded in 2016, offers a second chance to the waste generated in a city like Bogotá, Colombia. People who want to walk throughout the city join up and store the material that is recycled in wheelbarrows. Recyclers are low-income people who work for a daily livelihood; their routes are defined by the days on which the garbage truck comes to pick it up; the inhabitants of the neighborhoods take their garbage out into the street to be collected by the car of the city's official garbage (Aqueduct and Sewerage Company of Bogotá) and the recyclers hours before selecting the recyclable material, organize it and take it to the collection center, such as the Moreno Recycling company.
This company belongs to the primary sector of the economy since the recovered material is used as raw material for different industries; it has two employees who attend the headquarters and 40 recyclers. Of these, 7 are female heads of household. The recycler generally sells the collected material to the collection center in cash and is immediately paid. With this cash, the recyclers have the daily sustenance to buy daily food and pay for a roof at night.

Reciclajes Moreno, fundada en el 2016, se encarga de ofrecer una segunda oportunidad a los residuos que son generados en una ciudad como Bogotá, Colombia. Para lograr recolectar el reciclaje, se vinculan personas que desean caminar por toda la ciudad y en carretillas almacenan el material que se recicla. Los recicladores son personas de bajos recursos que trabajan por un sustento diario, sus recorridos están definidos por los días en que el carro de la basura pasa a recogerla, los habitantes de los barrios sacan su basura a la calle para que sean recogidos por el carro de basura oficial de la ciudad (Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá) y los recicladores horas antes seleccionan el material reciclable, lo organizan y lo llevan al centro de acopio, como lo es la empresa de Reciclajes Moreno.
Esta empresa pertenece al sector primario de la economía puesto que el material recuperado se utiliza como materia prima para diferentes industrias, cuenta con 2 empleados que atienden la sede central y 40 recicladores. De estos, 7 son mujeres cabeza de familia. En general, el reciclador le vende al centro de acopio el material recolectado y en efectivo e inmediato se le paga por este. Con este efectivo, los recicladores tienen el sustento diario para adquirir comida diaria y pagar un techo por la noche.
