Summary

Frog’s at Magnolia Beach is innovative in the way that it provides service to its customers. Frog’s at Magnolia Beach provides a wide range of products within their establishment. Good food, tasty meals, and local products are offered at a very cheap price. Compared to most truck stops, the Frog’s farmers market is able to organize an innovative way of building a sustainable community with a locally oriented consumer mindset. Instead of focusing on the prices and pushing them up, they keep their profit margins low to provide easy and affordable access to food-related products for the community as well as engage local businesses to resupply them when needed.

Innovation

Two weekends a month Frog’s at Magnolia hosts the Frog’s farmers market which is a market organized on their land with local vendors and producers coming to sell their locally made products. The organization is taken care of by the employees of Frog’s at Magnolia Beach and they dedicate a large portion of the 10-12 acres of land at their disposal to arrange and organize the stands for the farmers market to be operational during the weekends it is on. This innovation relates to the roots of the business itself which is to provide the best possible services at the lowest prices for the passing clients and the surrounding community. The owner stated during the interview that his business and the farmers’ market were never a means to elevate his revenue but rather a way to provide for the community, supply them with quality service and inexpensive products as well as a great experience to have as a family.

A Friendly Neighbourhood Frog

Inspiration

This innovation emerged from the owner’s daughter who wanted to organize a market with fresh products to be sold and for the passing customers and surrounding community to enjoy and take advantage of.

Overall impact

The Frog’s farmers market has had a great impact on the business as it has helped it become well-known in the area, had it gain big-time visibility and respect amongst the community which in turn has created a loyal and continuously growing customer base.

Business benefit

This innovation brings great visibility to the business and encourages word-to-mouth marketing within the community and potential clients that would pass in front of the business every day.

Social and environmental benefit

Frog’s at Magnolia Beach with its Frog’s Farmers Market impacts the 11th UN sustainable development goal which is sustainable cities and communities. Here we have a common business, a truck stop, that has been turned into a community-oriented business that promotes local consumption and local business. This innovation of the Frog’s Farmers Market benefits the business greatly as it provides a unique opportunity for drivers passing by and community families to get local products fresh and at good prices. This initiative brings in a tone of visibility not only from people around the business but on social media with satisfied customers talking about it and bringing people from farther communities to come to try it out.

Not only does this benefit the community around the business but the farmer's market helps the environment by promoting the consumption of local products and helping out local farmers and producers of goods. Instead of going to Walmart during the weekends to buy their groceries families go to the Frog’s farmers market to buy locally sourced products with their kids, that will, later on, adopt the same habits. Short-term effects are that the business provides a community with the bare necessities which are fuel and a local market to buy products. In an area that can be considered remote, this has become vital for the community and the loyal customers that depend on the low prices offered.
