This Business Entity give the solution on how to manage trash.

They educate how to recycle the trash to add value to the products.

It also gives the opportunity for the community to increase their income.

Innovation

Khilda Baiti Rohmah as a founder, formed Sampahkoe in 2007 as a Community Environment Activity, then it become a Social Enterprise. She is the founder of the Community with her husband, Genta Yudaswara, in Sukabumi, their land of birth. They made a lot of program in several villages which encouraged people to reduce waste.

Sampahkoe runs the business using AR3E, which stands for Action, Research, Education, Empowerment, and Entrepreneurship. Action is teaching the community on how to reduce trash. Research is conducted on how to manage the trash. Education is through conducting several training on upcycling. Empowerment is by empowering communities. Entrepreneurship is on how they make the products and then sell it.

There are 3 (three) sector in Sampahkoe. Services, Products, and Programs. For services, Khilda has served a lot of request to have seminar for individuals, community, company, government, and also for other Country. For products, Sampahkoe has already creates a lot of crafting, interior design, even alternative energy like bio-ethanol and biogas. For programs, they create various training to communities, in order to learn how to make crafting and other products from recycled trash, and also how to live a healthy life.

Inspiration

The story begins through inspiring moments. First, Mrs. Khilda met a garbage picker where his wife was sold to prostitution house because he can’t paid his debt to Loan Shark for Rp 2 Millions. Khilda was upset at that time, she couldn’t help because at that time she had no money. Second story, Khilda met an old garbage picker. He had 8 children that could not enter the school because his salary was only Rp 350 thousands (idr or 23 usd). And the Third story Khilda met twin child. They lived at a landfill in cow hovel. They were abandoned by their parents because they had no money to live.

So, she thought that, she could have empowered them.

“By empowering the people, they could increase their income using materials near them.”

Overall impact

Sampahkoe is a Community and Social Enterprise, they have empowered approximately 5000 people, especially women, all around Indonesia. They can increase their communities income by creating handicraft.Their Kraft has already exported to 12 Countries. They also have strengthen the garbage bank groups in the community to manage household's waste. They can reduce the waste approximately until 20%. For the alternative energy, their new innovation is Liquid Bacteria, which replace the need for yeast bacteria. In 2017, Sampahkoe has already cooperate with Germany’s Entrepreneur called Mr. Azin Khan to create Biogas Portable. This kind of business will give the long term impact to this Enterprise.

She had been invited to give many seminars in many places, including overseas countries. She had been asked to stay in their country, because of her talent and the huge potential. But her husband reminded her to have self reflection.

“If you want to give a change to other country, you must give a change in your country first.”

Business benefit

From the beginning Mrs. Khilda formed Sampahkoe in 2007, until now they have 12 main staffs. Along with all staffs, they try the best to enlarge their business. They have the benefit by producing recycling from trash, such as, bags, wallets, sandals, handycraft, necklaces, decoration, and many others. Their main office is in Sukabumi. From this place, together with several investors, they spread the business to other villages and cities.

They cooperate with local government in order to make the sustainable program. From waste decomposition products, they can sell it for the utilization of livestock and also agriculture sectors. They also produced organic vegetables and duck probiotics. For bioethanol and biogas, it gives them big income. They also open program of donation to share to the community.

By using sharing profit model, they could earn income for the business.

Social and environmental benefit

These innovation that Sampahkoe formed, have given many benefit for the society and environment. For the society, they already give welfare to the community. They already spread konwledge to various villages and cities in Indonesia such as Sukabumi, Bandung, Cimahi, Jambi, Pekanbaru, Balikpapan, and many others.

For the environment, they succeed to reduce about 20% of waste in each family who cooperates with these business. More over, landfill of garbage as the source of their finding in recycling materials, Cikamundu, located in Sukabumi, as one ogfGarbage Landfill, has transformed as a local ecotourism destination. They cooperated with local government to change the place into pleasant destination to visit.
