Over the last 10 years CCL Kontur managed to successfully introduce a green thinking ideology in its sustainable business practices. In the last ten years CCL Industries Inc. has been developing an idea of sustainable business among its employees, customers and partners to save the planet. The company implemented a list of innovative ideas that are perceived as "green" ones.

First of all, these innovations help achieving SDGs 7 and 12. "Our company has developed special LED lamps that allow to use less energy without compromising the production process itself" - said Yan Vishnevskiy. The company is also making a significant effort to achieve the goal of reasonable use of water resources (SDG 6). They have reduced the water consumption that is used in the purification processes. Also, water inks had been replaced by solid UV cure inks and new equipment has been installed which uses the minimum amount of water.

These innovations required a great amount of money, enforcement and work, but today one can already see significant changes that have happened in this company and in the perceptions of its employees and partners.

“Green” technologies and "green" ideology are popular modern trends appealing to both companies and ordinary people.

"Being "green", helps to compete seriously in the market. What is more, it also allows us to struggle with those giants, who operates in "ancient " way of doing business" - outlined the technical director of CCL Kontur Yan Vishnevskiy.

So, the CEO of CCL company decided to introduce these “green” technologies at all production facilities. On the one hand, because the environmental problems are becoming burning issues they are obligatory to be solved by business giants. On the other hand, being green helps to keep up with the competitors and not to lose the company's leading position on the market.

Overall impact

CCL has already shown considerable results since 2010. The company reduced CO2 emissions by 40%, water consumption was cut by 90%, the company decreased ordinary waste by 45% thanks to using recyclable and renewable components, also they reduced energy usage by 80% thanks to using a new lighting system.

The company takes global environmental problems seriously and undertakes different actions to resolve some of the current issues. For example, they install solar panels at the factory in North Carolina as an experiment of performance using only alternative sources of energy. If it meets the expectations, the company will introduce such technology at all production facilities, including Russia.

"The implementation of the "green" technologies is expensive. The costs for the introduction of new equipment are enormous. In spite of costs, this deployment is quickly recouped. What is more, the idea is to introduce new technologies at once in all branches, which allows us to save on the scale" - explained Mr. Vishnevskiy. The company will follow this trend and will invest money further in perspective projects of their employees and partners, as the "green" business is the future of the company and the future of the whole business world.

Social and environmental benefit

The management of the company believes that if they are able to apply innovative technologies in their business, this will be a firm long-term investment in the flourishing future of business. And indeed, innovations did not come only from abroad, but some of them were also invented within the organization. The first major achievement in the field of intracorporate developments is the new lighting LED-system. Thanks to this system, today CCL has a great possibility to reduce energy consumption. It can be said with certainty that a reasonable consumption of electricity contributes to reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere. And also it contributes to the improvement of the ecological situation.

Consequently, the social impact is enormous. Due to the new refurbishment system, CCL has a great opportunity to minimize the threatening impact of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases on the local environment. Reducing the impact of the pollution factor allows their staff to keep their health strong, and local people do not suffer from polluted air and water.
