Summary

Collect and manage the company's agronomic information (raw material consumption) to support the management and operational decisions of the crops in a fast and timely manner, seeking to reduce raw material costs through timely decision making. For information and traceability of an agronomic management system (SIGESA).

Innovation

  • Management of information in databases, making use of mobile information technologies (tablets).
  • A new way of managing the daily operations of crops
  • Create a way to see the field, passing it from the concept of agricultural farm to AGRICULTURAL COMPANY, dignify the field.
  • Change the concept of the farmer on the farm by the concept of entrepreneur farmer.

The Increase in Rice Production Per Hectare

Inspiration

From the need to obtain timely information to anticipate and correct timely problems in the administrative management of the crop, and the need to manage and build a database in an operation of more than 4,000 has./year for future analysis , SIGESA is created to provide a timely solution to these needs, implementing a day-to-day information collection model, and serving as logistical support to reduce raw materials shipments.

Overall impact

Since the implementation of SIGESA in the company, it has become an essential and essential tool in the daily agronomic operations of the company, becoming a fundamental support for agronomists and field coordinators, who manage to access information in an agile manner to support themselves in the making of day-to-day decisions.

Business benefit

In the last year, the use of the tool has seen a positive result in three important aspects, the first is the increase in the average production per hectare that went from 112 Bt / hect in 2016 to 114 Bt / hect in the 2017, that is, an increase of 2 Bt / hect.

The other important aspect is the decrease in costs per hectare, which went from $ 7,006,429 / hect to $ 6,877,312 / hect, a decrease of $ 129,117 / hect.

Finally, a decrease in raw material consumption is reflected in the comparison of 2016 vs. 2017, the cost savings is of $ 138,585 / hect, that is, a decrease in raw material costs of 5%. All this translates into a decrease in the cost per kilo of paddy rice, which went from $ 1,001 / kg in 2016 to $ 963 / kg in 2017; a reduction of $ 38 / kg which means 3.79% less in cost.

And in 2017, an average of 19 million kg have been collected, which means a cost saving of around 720 million pesos; which guarantees a sustainable production and consumption for the business, and therefore contributes to satisfy the country's demand for rice.

On March 23, 1993, Lorenzo Hidalgo Gómez and his sons founded Consorcio Agrícola Buenos Aires SAS, NIT 800.192.056-7; responding to a conjunctural opportunity that affected the rice sector, in which some farmers stopped planting their land due to lack of profitability. C.A.B.A SAS making use of the experience and its recognition in the agriculture; decides to bet on the sector and expands its agricultural operations to different areas of Tolima with more than 4000 ha / year, becoming highly competitive and positioning itself among the most important and influential cultivating companies in the country. As a result of such a large agricultural operation and the need to manage efficiently that volume of hectares, the opportunity arises to create a tool that allows to solve this need; it is when SIGESA (Agronomic Management System) born that it allows gathering, consulting and serves as a support to analyze the agronomic information of the crop.
