Ecomatic is a Goa-based company located in Mapusa. The founder started the company in 2019 with a vision to cater to the demand for paper packaging in different sectors through sustainable means. The company promotes the usage of recycled paper packaging instead of plastic which we know is very harmful to the environment as it is non-biodegradable.

The company acquires raw materials that are recycled papers from different vendors using them to design and manufacture creative packaging materials, which are functional and also very appealing aesthetically. Their sales and marketing team promotes the usage of these packaging solutions to other businesses. Thus, contributing to changing the mindset of the other businesses connected to this company through various means.

Inspiration

The founder and CEO of ECOMATIC, Mr. Paresh Palyekar, is an Engineering graduate from Goa College of Engineering. After graduation, he started working in an MNC in the IT and Software sector. In later stages, he also worked in the chemical industry sector.

He has a total experience of more than 15 years in these sectors. He says, "When I worked with these different companies, I always had the vision to start up my own business and kept working towards it by improving my skills and knowledge required for this step. As and when I was part of the Chemical Industries- I realized that although they were doing business in the synthetic chemical sector, they followed all the rules and regulations and tried by all means to contribute towards a sustainable medium of doing business."

Further, he says, "This inspired me to set up a business which is conventional but at the same time can contribute to the environment by using different sustainable means." That's how the founder describes his motivation for doing business in this sector.

So, in 2019 ECOMATIC was founded with the mission and vision to make the world a better place.

Overall impact

The Company was set up in mid-2019, and its operations started in October 2019. The business was impacted by Covid throughout the years 2020 and 2021. But still, through its bumpy ride, it managed to establish itself with an annual turnover of approx. 50 Lakhs in 2021-2022.

The businesses in and around Goa accepted the packaging solutions provided by the company considering the positive impact on the environment. The company was able to shift the mindset of the local vendors to use these products against plastic products. Although, the cost is on the higher side of plastic products.

Also, the selection of suppliers is widely scrutinized so that raw material suppliers follow proper guidelines for recycled paper production. This innovative business helps circulate paper back into the system again, thereby reducing the need for creating new and reducing the wastage of resources.

This process follows the UN SDG goals of Responsible Consumption and Production of resources.

Business benefit

Since 2019, the business has grown with a turnover of 50 Lakh (5 million) and targeting 2Cr (20 million) by 2023. It employs 12 full-time employees.

Mr. Palyekar says, "Our organization is supported by a huge and well-developed infrastructural facility that has played an important role in the growth and success of our organization. In order to ensure the smooth functioning of all business processes, we have segregated this unit into various sub-functional departments such as procurement, production, quality control, sales & marketing, etc. Our competent and highly qualified professionals efficiently administer these departments and ensure precise and hassle-free operation. Our production unit is well-resourced with the most-modern machinery and cutting-edge technology that enables us to complete ample orders of clients within the committed period of time."

They have recruited a highly qualified and skilled team of professionals that assists us in fabricating a comprehensive range of products. Social and environmental benefit

Since the raw material is in the form of recycled paper, it results in a circular paper flow, thereby reducing the wastage of resources.

Recycling is a great and affordable approach to protecting the environment and saving money. One tonne of paper requires the use of 24 trees. Compared to creating paper from scratch, recycling paper results in approximately a 73% reduction in pollution.

Recycling used resources to promote sustainable development must be strictly adhered to wherever possible to ensure that future generations have access to the same resources as us.

Ecomatic also uses paper from sugarcane waste. As compared with wood pulp paper, sugarcane paper has the advantage of being cleaner and more environmentally friendly. After sugarcane is converted into cane sugar, bagasse is typically burned, which adds to environmental pollution. Instead of processing or burning bagasse, we convert it into paper. Additionally, it is biodegradable and replenishes soil nutrients. A product's biodegradability guarantees that it can decompose naturally over time.
