In 2023, the Canales Arenas siblings from Cuernavaca, Morelos, came up with a truly innovative idea: shark-shaped flip flops.

But what makes this idea so innovative? These flip flops are customizable, allowing customers to personalize them based on their personality, preferences, favorite colors, and designs.

The most remarkable aspect of their business is their commitment to several UN Sustainable Development Goals. For example, they focus on "Life Below Water" by allocating part of their profits to an organization called "México Azul," which helps protect marine life. They work to keep ocean areas clean and reduce the impact of pollution on the oceans.

In addition, they are developing new products made from recycled materials, including a line of swimsuits and t-shirts. They've received an overwhelmingly positive response from customers who share their vision of making the world a better place. Through these small actions, they are making a big difference.

Inspiration

Daniela Arenas claims, "We wanted to have a business, but we didn’t know what exactly. We just knew we wanted something that wasn’t only about making money—we wanted something that could help people and the environment." She also shared that both herself and her brother have always loved fashion and sharks, and they wanted to create something unique—something everyone would use and need at some point in their life. This was the initial idea behind "Sharklas." 

Together they developed a process where they allocate part of their profits to an organization called "México Azul," which helps protect marine life by working to keep ocean areas clean and reduce the impact of pollution.

This idea revolutionized the market, as many people were drawn to the flip flops, amazed by the positive impact they were making. They realized that by purchasing these products, they were contributing to marine conservation.

After seeing such a positive response from customers, the owners decided to expand their offerings, launching a new line of swimsuits. They also plan to make these swimsuits using recycled materials, furthering their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Overall impact

The main innovation and objective of the company is marine life and the sea, the company seeks to reduce the impact that pollution has and does on the sea, and reduce the number of consequences that it generates: that is why in this company they opt for more ecological processes, using recyclable materials, raising awareness of the damage we generate to our planet with our ordinary purchases, and making them notice that small changes make significant changes for our environment. 

The long-term objectives are that people prefer 100% options that benefit the environment and that with so much help that organizations receive from us and other parties, a significant change can be made for our environment.

They also have in development new products that are made with recycled materials, they clearly have a concern about the contamination to the seas.
