PAREXEL always challenges the status quo and explores any opportunities for continuous advancements. Additionally, the company strives for a stimulating environment open to curiosity, educating and innovation.
In Japan, PAREXEL's Diversity and Inclusion (D/I) symbolizes an opportunity to take positive steps to establish a more inclusive work environment. Jing Liu, Vice President, Regional Head, Medical Sciences, APAC, and committee co-chair wanted to promote this innovation to encourage the inclusion of diverse experiences, thoughts, perspectives and so on.
Jing Liu’s inspiration to launch this Committee came from her participation in the Global Summit of Women in Tokyo, where PAREXEL was a sponsor. This three-day international women empowerment forum gathered 1,300 women from across the world and highlighted endeavors to close the gender gap and improve women’s roles in the workplace/ corporate leadership positions. It opened her eyes to the inequality that is still prevalent in the world, specifically Asian Pacific countries.
Being one of the leading pharmaceutical companies, PAREXEL’s decision to create this type of committee has a huge impact not only in the pharmaceutical industry but also to the world. PAREXEL has reached out to local councils and political figures in different Asian countries to raise awareness of the gender gap. They have stressed the importance that gender equality can bring to society. PAREXEL has especially made a big impact in Japan, where gender equality is lacking. They have shown just how important women's contributions are to the workplace.
Being that Parexel is one of the leading pharmaceutical industries, they wanted to show the world that they embrace gender diversity. They want the whole world, especially political figures to know about this issue and that they can do something about it. Parexel wants to be known as a company that they are aware of social issues in society and are willing to address it.
Parexel wants people to know that women do have a voice. It doesn’t matter what gender we are; we can all make a difference and have a common goal. Parexel wants women to know that they are with them and together we can make a difference in creating the workplace a better place to be in. Women have been historically underrepresented in the STEM field and developing initiatives to help women break into the industry will help bring diversity and innovation into a conservative field. An estimated 48% of women make up of the U.S. workforce but only 28% of women are in the STEM field, which consists of the highest paying jobs in America. With initiatives such as diversity programs and conferences to give a platform for women to thrive, this will promote a culture of inclusiveness and innovation.

This represented an opportunity to take positive steps to establish a more inclusive work environment. With this committee, PAREXEL’s mission is to make women’s leadership skills more visible to the public eye. They want to showcase women in the business/corporate world by advocating for the voice of women and partnership between both genders.
