Summary

Heavenly Organics honey and honey-based products are raw unfiltered and unpasteurized, USDA Certified Organic, Fair Trade, Non-GMO Project verified, antibiotic-free, and pesticide-free. All honey is sustainably harvested from wild hives/free range bees through a smoke-free process which is friendly to bees.

Innovation

Heavenly Organics was founded in 2004 by Mr. Amit Hooda, whose vision was to build worker-owned cooperatives in India to foster long-term trade partnerships that would be mutually beneficial. The honey produced by Heavenly Organics is sourced from isolated valleys and pristine forests to bring products to the USA made from the purest, organic ingredients on earth, produced through time-honored traditions. The honey harvested by Heavenly Organics is from naturally occurring wild beehives well beyond the reach of pesticides and other pollutants. Heavenly Organics honey isn’t warmed above natural hive temperature to preserve pollen, live enzymes and other nutrients found in raw honey. Heavenly Organics is dedicated to preserving the livelihoods of family farmers in remote and conflict areas. The firm believes that profits can create peace and ancient ways can deliver delicate goodness to today’s modern world. There are three types of honey produced by Heavenly Organics, Organic Raw White Himalayan Honey, Organic Raw Neem Honey, and Organic Raw Acacia Himalayan Honey. Each of the three different types of honey has its own unique taste.

Heavenly Organics also produces six types chocolate patties: mint, almond, pomegranate, double dark chocolate, ginger and peanut.

Nature's Sweetness

Inspiration

Mr. Amit Hooda was raised up in the countryside of Northern India which was steeped in vibrant culture, ancient traditions, and vast wilderness. As a young boy, he witnessed conflict during the Punjab Insurgency. Amit’s father, Dr. I. S Hooda, came up with the sustainable method of extracting honey from wild beehives in a bee-friendly and smoke-free way. He also worked with local honey harvesters to teach them this method. Amit decided to pursue a higher education in the United States. His father encouraged him to attend the Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in Fairfield, Iowa to continue his studies and spiritual growth. MUM is consciousness-based education, where all students practice the Transcendental Meditation technique and study traditional academic programs. After attending school and studying Computer Science, Amit came up with an idea to help eliminate conflict in areas of central India and northern parts of the Himalayas, where conflict was still present. They came up with the premise that the only way to eliminate conflict is to provide the people in these areas with ethical job opportunities.

Overall impact

Heavenly Organics has impacted lives in India by employing people. Heavenly Organics has impacted the well-being of customers by providing raw, organic honey. The majority of other honey sold in the United States has been heated and ultra-filtered, and has absolutely no pollen content.

Business benefit

In the year 2015, Heavenly Organic’s Honey Sales grew by 174.9%. The sales for chocolate patties grew by 50%. This can be interpreted as consumer satisfaction. This has helped Heavenly Organics to attract more investors.

Social and environmental benefit

The main motive of the company is to eliminate conflict by providing job opportunities to the farmers and other skilled people. Since 2004, the company has earned remarkable revenue and supported 550 farmer’s families. Heavenly Organics is a leader in the authentic fair trade movement helping to create big change. The belief the owner holds is “profit can bring peace”, so the goal is to increase the number of farmers they work with to 5,000 in the next five years and to extend this business model into other countries to help create long-lasting sustainable economies in other isolated areas and conflict zones.

The company has covered three important Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

1. No poverty (SDG 01): Heavenly organics sustains the economic and cultural survival of indigenous families in troubled and conflict areas of northern and central India and parts of the Himalayas.

Purchasing products from Heavenly Organics, directly helps and supports 550 indigenous families, allowing them to continue their traditional way of life.

2. Good health and well-being (SDG 03): Raw honey is known for an exceptionally high live enzyme content, which aids digestion of or the breakdown of foods (like fats, carbohydrates and proteins) into their simplest form. Raw honey has been used for centuries for its healing properties. Collection and production methods preserve the pollen, vitamins, minerals and enzymes found in raw honey.

3. Life on Land (SDG 15): Harvesters at night time only brush away the sleeping bees and cut a portion of the hive away leaving the queen and the hive intact instead of smoking, this method reduces the incidences of harming the bees, the hives, and also eliminates forest fires. This way no harm comes to the forest animals and bees.
