Summary

Wastra Tunggal is a batik craftsman located in Jogjakarta, with a different way of making batik compared to other batik craftsmen. In Wastra Tunggal all batik is made handmade and using natural dyes derived from the plants. Therefore, batik cloth produced by Wastra Tunggal is very safe for users, craftsmen and for the environment, because the waste are non-chemicals and safe.

Innovation

Batik is a very popular cultural heritage of Indonesia. Even in September 2009 UNESCO gave international recognition to Indonesian batik to the List of Representative as Culture of Inheritance of Man.

But, behind the pride of Indonesian Batik, tucked a problem, where today many batik artisans no longer use good ways to produce batik, one of them is to use synthetic dyes that are not safe for batik wearers, batik craftsmen and the surrounding environment due to the waste from synthetic dyes.

However, not so with Wastra Tunggal, a producer of batik handicrafts located in Jogjakarta. Mr. Tunggal, the owner, uses natural dyes, derived from plants, from roots, stems, leaves or flowers.

Wastra means : fabric

Tunggal means : the only one, also the owner’s name

So Wastra Tunggal = batik fabric designed and made as the special batik or only one design for one batik

The effort and hard work of Mr. Tunggal is not in vain, he has found his own market for batik Wastra Tunggal, people who care about the cultural heritage as well as care about the environment and his health and batik craftsmen.
