Summary

Greenmyna, a sustainability consultancy, offers innovative solutions to address UN SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). Through zero-waste event management, technology-driven waste tracking, and ecosystem restoration, Greenmyna helps individuals and businesses reduce their environmental impact while promoting sustainable practices. By integrating eco-conscious methods into daily life and special events, Greenmyna empowers communities and businesses to actively contribute to a better world.

Innovation

Greenmyna’s innovation lies in redefining how events and operations can be made sustainable through practical and impactful solutions. Founded in 2020 by Ashwin Malwade and Nupur Agarwal, the consultancy addresses waste management challenges and promotes eco-conscious practices across weddings, corporate events, and global initiatives like the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

By employing a zero-waste philosophy, Greenmyna eliminates event-related landfill contributions through reusable materials, composting organic waste, and promoting a circular economy by renting and upcycling resources. The consultancy’s data-driven waste management system tracks and minimizes carbon footprints while offering actionable insights to clients. Additionally, Greenmyna has pioneered marine ecosystem restoration by adopting Carter Road Beach and its mangroves in Mumbai, addressing SDG 14 through regular cleanups and biodiversity protection.

Greenmyna also empowers communities through workshops, training, and collaborations with local workers and NGOs. Their approach integrates societal and environmental benefits, proving that sustainability is both feasible and scalable.

Greenmyna: Redefining Celebrations with Sustainability at Heart

Inspiration

Greenmyna’s journey began in 2017, when Ashwin and Nupur met during a beach cleanup drive. Bonding over their shared passion for the environment, they envisioned a future where sustainability was seamlessly woven into daily life and celebrations. Their eco-friendly wedding in 2019, organized with zero waste, was a turning point. “We realized there was a gap in the market for sustainable event planning,” says Ashwin. “That’s when we decided to create something impactful.”

During the pandemic in 2020, they launched Greenmyna, inspired by their belief that small changes could lead to big transformations. “We wanted to show that sustainability is not a compromise but an opportunity to innovate and inspire,” Nupur shares. Their commitment to reducing marine pollution, preserving biodiversity, and empowering communities continues to drive their mission.

Overall impact

Greenmyna’s innovative practices have led to significant short- and long-term impacts. In the short term, the consultancy has prevented over 71,250 kg of waste from reaching landfills by recycling 30,350 kg of dry waste and composting 40,900 kg of organic waste. Their adoption of Carter Road Beach has removed over 120,000 kg of waste, directly contributing to cleaner oceans and healthier ecosystems.

In the long term, Greenmyna’s initiatives have fostered a culture of sustainability among clients, businesses, and communities. Through workshops and educational tools, they have inspired thousands to adopt eco-conscious practices. Their work in ecosystem restoration, particularly the plantation of 1,850 trees, has offset 6,200 kg of carbon emissions, contributing to climate action goals. By showcasing the feasibility of zero-waste events on a global scale, such as the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Greenmyna has set a new standard for sustainable event management.

Business benefit

Greenmyna’s innovative approach has opened new markets and created growth opportunities. By addressing the growing demand for sustainability, the consultancy has built a niche in eco-friendly event planning, attracting both individual and corporate clients. High-profile projects, such as waste management for the Cricket World Cup, have enhanced their credibility and expanded their reach internationally.

Additionally, Greenmyna’s partnerships with local workers and NGOs have boosted community goodwill, strengthening their brand reputation. The business’s commitment to sustainability has attracted like-minded employees who value purpose-driven work, leading to increased employee retention and satisfaction. “When employees see their work making a tangible impact, it creates a sense of pride and belonging,” notes Ashwin. Revenue streams from consulting, workshops, and event planning continue to grow, ensuring the business’s sustainability both financially and environmentally.

Social and environmental benefit

Greenmyna’s initiatives deliver far-reaching benefits to society and the environment. Their beach cleanups and mangrove restoration efforts have enhanced marine biodiversity, reduced ocean pollution, and raised awareness about the importance of clean ecosystems. By involving local communities in these efforts, Greenmyna creates jobs and fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility among participants.

Society benefits through Greenmyna’s focus on food redistribution, having donated over 11,600 meals from event leftovers to those in need. Their training programs and workshops equip individuals with skills in waste management and sustainable practices, empowering them to contribute to a greener future.

Environmentally, Greenmyna’s zero-waste solutions prevent pollution, conserve resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By promoting the use of biodegradable materials and renewable resources, the consultancy actively combats climate change and sets a model for sustainable living. Their innovative solutions inspire a shift toward a circular economy, ensuring a healthier planet for generations to come.
