Green Point has a few innovations they use in order to help the environment. It sources its products from local farms, such as "Organic Morgan's Farm". One of the biggest things they do is donate their leftover food compost to Morgan's Farm in order to fertilize plants and use it as energy. They also use biodegradable cups, straws, containers and cutlery. These innovations relate back to Sustainable Development Goal 12, ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, Goal 13, climate Action, and Goal 3, Good Health and well-being.
Green Point Juicery uses many methods of innovation to focus on their responsible and sustainable plan. They reduce and reuse, collect and donate their compost, and make their products with local and certified organic produce only. By using organic fruit, they are contributing to Sustainable Development Goal number 3, good health and well-being. They donate all of their juicing compost to Organic Morgan’s Farm. On top of all of this, they pay attention to the cleaning products they use, and try to make them as harmless and organic as they can.The main produce cleaning agent is vinegar, but they also use a plant-based veggie wash solution. This company is persistently working to reduce water and energy consumption in their everyday practices.
Green Point Juicery takes their consumption and production responsibilities seriously. Green Point Juicery prides themselves in the use of biodegradable cups, straws, containers and cutlery. This helps them focus on Sustainable Development Goal number 12. By using biodegradable materials, they are choosing to consume in a smarter way. Instead of using products that will add to the landfills, they are using a product that will biodegrade naturally. They have chosen to focus on building their company values to coincide with what society and the environment needs. This company has done their research and found the products, locations and actions that work best for them.
When starting the business, the owner Eugene Onishkevich wanted a product that would be a perfect combination of healthy and tasty. There are plenty of businesses that focus on healthy juices like Playa Bowls or Jungle Juice. But Onishkevich wanted to set his business apart from these business. Not only does he incorporate many unique ingredients into his juices like wheatgrass, cayenne, and turmeric, but he purchases all of the produce they use from local organic farms. To further differentiate their product, Green Point made some small changes to their store to make them Kosher. Since all of their food was all organic and they served no meat products, all they had to do to ensure this was to create a separate storage space for employee’s meals and a separate seating area in the back.
The innovations used by Green Point have positive short and long term effects. Using strictly biodegradable cups, straws, containers, and cutlery allows them to leave a smaller footprint on the planet. Instead of using materials that would end up in a landfill, Green Point’s waste will be able to decompose into the earth and leave no trace. Biodegradable materials not only take away from the waste, but it also uses less materials to produce while using less energy. Even though they are paying a little bit extra for the biodegradable materials, it is worth it for the positive impact it has on the environment.
Using completely organic produce also has a significant impact. By serving their customers an organic product, they are having a positive impact on their health. Organic fruit is safer and healthier for the body because it is not sprayed with harmful artificial fertilizers and pesticides. When grown without these additives, they also are produced with more vitamins and antioxidants. Not only does using organic fruit help the people that are eating the food, it also helps the farmers who are growing the food. Growing organic fruit is very costly. Organic farmers often struggle compared to larger, non-organic farms who are able to produce more fruit and sell it at a cheaper price. Green Point could easily find cheaper, non-organic fruit and save a little money, but they have decided to spend a little extra to support the farmer who is trying to have a positive impact on the earth.
Green Point has certainly improved their own business by keeping sustainability in mind. When they moved into their Morristown location, they kept most of the previous business’ floors, ceiling, and walls, They also used some of the existing wood that was left behind to create other structures around the shop. Whatever materials that were left over and not used were then recycled. By reusing these materials, Green Point saved themselves thousands of dollars, while helping the environment at the same time.
Green Point’s unique menu of organic and vegan options are also helping their business. In today’s day in age, a lot more people are health conscious and look for organic and vegan options when deciding what to eat. Having these options increases their customer segments, and therefore, increases the amount of customers that dine at the business. Not only do they attract the health conscious, but since they are also Kosher they attract a lot of the Jewish community in Morristown to their business. Green Point’s innovations are rubbing off on their employees as well. All of the employees use green methods of transportation, like walking or riding their bike, in order to get to work.
Green Point’s innovations not only help their own business, but also the environment and society as a whole. These innovations are primarily useful because they are saving the earth's resources by reusing them. Furthermore by making the cups biodegradable and by composting they are enabling the growth of new products without harm. This has a direct impact on society since it reduces the amount of waste we have to live alongside. Their composting innovation have had a great impact on the township of Verona. The 20,000 pounds of compost they donate to Morgan’s Farm has saved Verona $1,200
The use of 100% organic produce can benefit both society and the environment because it reduces the use of harmful chemicals which could hurt us or the planet. When farmers use fertilizers, not all of it ends up on the plant. Tons of fertilizer ends up in the soil and contaminates the groundwater for decades, which leads to acid rain. This has shown to have a negative effect on the immune system and has harmful effects on developing fetuses.
