Summary

GAM Information Systems continuously educates their employees and provides them with lifelong learning opportunities. Their employees constantly need to be up to date with the latest technological advancements. By educating their employees, they are staying at the forefront of technological sales and services.

Innovation

GAM Information Systems' innovation is their constantly-updated education of their employees so that they can better inform and educate their customers. This practice began in the 1990's with the now CEO Greg Metzger. Greg Metzger and Paul Tornatore Sr. work very closely together and put a point of emphasis on continuously having employees certified and authorized every year so that they can better educate themselves and the people they work with on a daily basis. This began in the Colts Neck, New Jersey office where Paul Tornatore and Greg Metzger work. The emphasis on education is something that other businesses have practiced and many businesses can learn from. Education for all is something that is seriously considered by many businesses today, especially those that deal with customers on a daily basis. Customers expect their dealings to go smoothly and that the provider be well informed and educated in their field. By having employees continuously going through education and learning courses, your business is set up for success.

Inspiration

The biggest inspiration for this innovation were the many examples of companies who do not invest in their employees. We see large companies outsourcing because they do not care about the treatment of their workers, they are solely interested in profit. On a small scale, we see individuals unhappy with their work environment for one reason or another and the company ignores the issue, which makes the person hate their job and not work to their potential.

GAM did not want either of these to be the case. The company values its employees and its work. The founders of GAM wanted to build something that would do more than just generate profit; they wanted to build a company that would benefit every party involved.

Overall impact

The overall impact of this innovation is to better the company's employees while also providing the absolute best for their customers. By having their employees constantly learning new things from different technology providers and courses, GAM makes the most of what they have and to stay a competitor in this industry. When a company looks to GAM for technology and their services they know people such as Paul Tornatore Sr. will be able to provide them with information with ease and offer the best options possible.

If the employees of a business are not staying up to date with the newest advancements in their field, they are not only hurting the companies they work for, but they are also hindering their company's reputation and abilities. GAM makes it possible for their employees to learn from the best and educate themselves so that they can help and educate others on a global scale. When we interviewed Paul, he let us know that without the ability to learn and progress his business would fall behind quickly. The employees of GAM are required to be up to date on certifications and authorizations every year and this has a great impact on the effectiveness of the employees and the company since there is no room for them to fall behind or not put in their best effort. The impact of their education is also shown through innovation and sales, with the improvement and emphasis on employee education they are able to show their customers that they will always be there for them.

Business benefit

This innovation benefits the business because it creates quality employees and fosters positive relationships within the company, and with other companies as well. Something as small as offering these educational opportunities to their employees benefits the inner workings of the company and allows their relationships with their customers to grow. Since it is known throughout GAM that employees are so highly valued, they stay loyal to this company and do their best to ensure that this company provides quality service always.

Social and environmental benefit

GAM Information Systems offers various services to their customers and works tirelessly to build strong, professional relationships in and out of the company sector. They strongly believe that the first step in providing worthwhile services and creating those relationships is to invest in their workforce. To GAM Information Systems, that does not solely mean choosing the best employees. It means offering them opportunities to better themselves and to encourage their employees to strive to be better not just for the company, but for themselves as well. These opportunities come in many forms, such as education and certification programs. By building up their employees, they create a positive and ethical work environment that in turn allow employees to willingly build those strong, professional relationships with other companies who may seek GAM's services.

Because GAM places so much emphasis on personal success as well as the company's success, employees are more willing to give their all when it comes to the jobs they do and they are more willing to help build up these other companies that work with GAM. As a result, all of these businesses are constantly flourishing and fueling the economy. Such a small innovation has proven to have a large impact on the community that all of these businesses serve.
