Telkom Indonesia created Telkom Indigo in 2013 to build Digitalpreneur of Indonesia. It was started to help digital creatives turn their talents into digital commerce, both local and international, by providing creative ecosystem, funding, mentorship, incubation and acceleration. This community is located in a space called Digital Innovation Lounge (DILO) and Digital Valleys spread over 14 cities in Indonesia as Creative Camps and Creative Centres.
For promising start-ups, Telkom invests in up to 12% of its shares and helps match the start-up with Telkom's subsidiaries or recruit other investors.
The primary goal of DILO is to nurture creativity in younger generations and encourage young people to explore careers in digital products and solutions in hopes of closing the gap between the digital industry demand for workers and availability of qualified digitalpreneurs.
DILO is part of Telkom Indigo Framework that consists of:
The duration from Selection - Incubation - Acceleration - Market Validation is typically between 7 months to 2 years.
Every year in April and October, Telkom opens registration for startup development.
Telkom is open to both professionals and entrepreneurs and offers a curriculum with three tracks: Creative, Business, Technical (Android). A pupil may join only one track. A startup team consists of three pupils, each in one of the three tracks.
From 2013 to 2015, 65 startups completed the incubation program and over 2000 applications were received.
Telkom hopes this system provides 'end to end' support to grow successful startups in Indonesia's digital industry.
Telkom Indonesia committed to build Digitalpreneur of Indonesia by starting creative camps and creative centers around Indonesia. Telkom also wished to provide additional funding to Indonesian startups who struggle to raise capital compared to international startups.
The inspiration behind Telkom Indigo matches directly with several of the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
Telkom offers curriculum for both professionals and aspiring digital entrepreneurs. The professional track provides training to procure jobs in the digital industry. The startup track helps identify and incubate successful startups that may lack the resources or training to succeed.
An extensive network of locations helps reach individuals across Indonesia. This network includes 17 creative facilities in 12 cities, such as 14 DILO (Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi,Medan, Bandung, Solo, Malang, Surabaya, Bali, Makassar, Balikpapan) and 3 Digital Valley (Bandung, Jogya, Jakarta).
Telkom matches startups with Telkom's subsidiaries business and has sold shares from startups to companies in Silicon Valley.
