MULTINSA designed and created a unique product in the market called DL10+ which is meant to be used as a dust suppressor in granular soil paths, mostly in mining operation and on no pavement streets, which generate high levels of pollution and dust contributing to the damaging of the environment, human beings and the machinery itself. According to Dr. Carlos Ahumada “the dust suppressor is a highly concentrated biodegradable vegetal additive, able to dissolve in water. Its water solubility feature allows you to control the dust within the environmental standards and at the same time reducing by 50% the water intake.”

Inspiration

Due to air and atmosphere pollution produced by opencast mining, either in quarries or construction, the increase of breathing problems in the working staff has been growing as well as in people bordering the working zone, also affecting crops, water sources, machinery and electrical appliances.

Because of the above, Dr. Ahumada says “inspiration comes from the need of contributing to the improvement of the ecosystem and the need of being a company that produces added value to the requirements of the industry and the market” decreasing significantly the amount of dust particles spread in the atmosphere, and at the same time decreasing the water intake, a resource that is used frequently in mining and in rough terrain zones and must be transported and used with care, taking into priority low costs and improvement of the community lifestyle.

According to Dr. Carlos Ahumada “The environmental commitment for the “dust suppressor DL10+” was to develop alongside a mining business an additive that controls and/or is able to decrease the dust emissions resulting from the process itself and combining two main variables: the first one, promoting a very low water intake, because as we know, water is a resource that is in short supply in the area where the product is to be use; and the second one, using a biodegradable product, meaning that the soil won’t be affected in the long run.”

Overall impact

MULTINSA has contributed significantly to the reduction of this effect, through cutting edge technology to the creation of this product, generating in the long run the compaction of the dust in places like quarries or mining areas, lowering up to 50% the water intake through the irrigation of soil, which is the common method to mitigate this problematic in the environment.

The use of the product allows the reduction of permanent irrigating costs thanks to its polymeric addictive, also, it is a biodegradable, non-toxic product able to reduce the amount of particles in the environment that are currently higher than the international levels allowed. It reduces hours of irrigation and machinery operation, as well as maintenance and operational close ups in the system.

All the above produces the biggest positive impact in the environment: reduction of polluting particles in the environment, which are potentially able to damage crops, machinery, wildlife and overall, decreases the respiratory health problems in the community living and working in the border of the industry, and betters the quality of their lives.
