Summary

Raed Alabdulwahab started BT Burger at the end of 2016. He chose to set up a food and beverage restaurant in Saudi Arabia, specifically the city of Riyadh, because it is a highly profitable business climate over there. The name BT Burger was chosen because it is easy to say and very catchy. Raed is a very cautious businessperson; hence, he started his business in a truck to reduce risks and minimize losses in case his venture failed. After he had been in business for a few months, he brought in a partner to accelerate the rate of meeting restaurant goals. All of Raed’s employees receive the same remuneration regardless of their sex. The restaurant values equality, hence no one is given an unfair advantage.

Fast Food and the Community

Inspiration

Raed wanted to establish a business that would provide all of his workers with equal opportunity. The unfair treatment women face in the workplace was one of the motivations behind the establishment. He also founded the company to support himself and his family. Finally, he had always envisioned owning a chain of restaurants.

Overall impact

The restaurant has had a positive impact on the community by pushing for equality. It has proven to the conservative community that equality is not far-fetched after all. The harmony in the workplace has resulted in more customers as no group has been discriminated against. Personnel are hired from the local community, thus helping those who would have otherwise been jobless. In addition to that, homeless persons occasionally receive hot meals from the restaurant.

Business benefit

The owner’s policy of keeping costs down has ensured high-profit margins. As such, he has been able to keep the business afloat, pay his employees well, and deliver quality services. This sustainable model should allow him to acquire more food trucks. Raed can quickly act on feedback from customers since he does not have many food trucks. Raed’s pursuit of partnership for the goals has helped push for international cooperation, not to mention it has resulted in the sharing of knowledge, technology, and expertise. Therefore, he can help those who want to take after him by assisting them in overcoming challenges associated with the fast food industry.

Social and environmental benefit

The push for gender equality has helped improve the social status of women. These women are empowered to be the best version of themselves. Furthermore, since promotions are based on merit, women are motivated in their service delivery. Male employees have profound respect for their female counterparts, and since they do not feel threatened by them, teamwork has improved immensely.

The restaurant gets most of its ingredients from local sources, hence benefiting them. The restaurant packages its products using recyclable and reusable materials. It provides bins for customers to throw their trash and advocates for proper disposal of all their waste products.
