Being a Maritime Country makes the Indonesian sea more widespread than the mainland. This makes the Fatherland filled with abundant and diverse marine natural resources. One of them is shellfish. Seashell has a unique look and texture. Cici initially utilize various types of shells around the island of Pramuka, Kepulauan Seribu such as red lip shoots, snow princess, and shell. Over time, Cici realizes that there are several types of shells that breed in certain areas of Indonesia. Not wanting her creation to stop, Cici also contacted fishermen and craftsmen in several provinces to work together by way of barter.
There are several steps that must be passed to produce shell craft products. First, sort the shells of good condition and wash them clean. Next, make the frame (molding) in accordance with the type of handicraft products to be made. The molding is made from liquid resin material. After that, immediately attach the shell plate to cover the entire molding surface. At this stage, not only assisted by workers but also by residents around Pramuka Island.
Citra Handicraft produces various handicraft products from clam shells since 2000. When Cici Sri Sulastri lectures, she once tried to make some products from the shell shells, which is to make photo frames that are then sold to college friends. Citra Handicraft has ever won the National Family Welfare Empowerment champion, 1st Winner of Sida Karya "Works Tested" in Jakarta, 3rd Winner of P2MKP Innovation Bakti Mina Bahari.
"For me sharing is fun, we can help people around us to get a livelihood, especially for fishermen and mothers. For fishermen this can be a major livelihood other than hunting and selling fish" said Cici Sri Sulastri.
With the opening of business opportunities in the field of shellfish in Indonesia, will increase the Indonesian commodity that can be the advantage of Indonesia. Cici aspires Indonesia to have a souvenir icon from shellfish, because Indonesia has a long shoreline in the world, it supports for the growth of shell business. Cici wants Indonesia to get recognition that the shell craft becomes an icon from Indonesia. Cici also began to develop souvenirs from seashells that have been sold throughout Indonesia.
Cici will start by continuing to develop her souvenir creations that are ethnic, unique and identical to an area. Cici will continue to increase her participation in exhibitions, so that people can get to know the craft of the shells, so no need to go all the way to the beach to get the shell craft.
Total demand for shellfish products continues to increase. The handicraft image is now capable of producing 200-300 lamps, 100 jars, 100 wall clocks, and 500-800 brooch leather every month. Total shellfish raw material used reaches 1.5-2 quintal every week. The price of Citra Handicraft product ranges from Rp 5,000 per piece for brooch, Rp200.000-Rp300.000 per piece for lamps, and Rp6 million for a set of jars made from mussel shells.
Citra handicraft make several good things happened. The business of shell crafts is very helpful financial condition of this business owner, with a income of 50-100 million per month, Citra handicraft able to increase revenue, and can to expand its business. This business also opens new business opportunities from people who are educated by P2MKP program.
Citra Handicraft also assist the government in implementing Corporate Social Responsibility program. With the empowerment of surrounding communities, especially mothers in this business, it can improve the welfare of society by making alternative livelihood for them. With the apprenticeship program, it can also distribute the processing sciences to regional representatives. How the Handicraft Image helps the country to print new entrepreneurs in the field of shellfish processing. This business also helps fishermen to earn money other than fish. Fishermen can utilize waste shells that accumulate as garbage can be processed into a form of craft.
The number of permanent employees of Citra Handicraft is 10 people and another freelines. In addition, Cici invites residents around the house to attach shells to molding. Many citizens participate because they want to fill the time and seek additional income. The number of residents who help today reached 40 people. By inviting the surrounding community to participate in the business business, it can help improve human and environmental empowerment, to produce the economic equity and people's welfare.
Citra Handicraft also has a training and education institute for the community related to the processing of shell waste with legal umbrella from the Ministry of Marine Affairs named P2MKP (Center for Independent Training of Marine and Fisheries) No. 41 / BPSDMKP / P2MKP / 2011. Citra Handicraft cooperates with ministry in succeeding apprenticeship program and comparative study in P2MKP. Citra Handicraft successfully teaches in almost all parts of Indonesia and to South Pacific countries. The method of learning in P2MKP is 20% theory and 80% practice, and has successfully taught nearly 1200 people in 27 provinces. By providing learning to the community, it will increase public understanding and open the minds of people to open business opportunities forward.
